  1. I usually take a 5" TV and big old VCR on trips for my kids. I'm contemplating taking my Apex AD-1100W this time since I've made so many VCDs. I DON'T want to ruin my DVD player, but then again, how different can it be from the portable TV/DVD player combo I saw at Walmart? What do you think? Anyone dome this?

Portable players are usually more robustly built, they're designed with constant, but not abusive, movement in mind. Your average settop DVD player won't take too kindly to this, especially a cheaper brand like Apex. Invest in the portable, it'll give you less headaches. What could be worse: Having to shell out the dough for the portable or having the settop player breakdown and hear your kids whine the whole time?

I spent only about 500$ on 4 5'6inch tft screens and a in-dash dvd/cd/mp3/vcd/svcd/anything player and it has worked like a charm.
I tryed to strap down my apex 1100W in the cab of my truck and the damn thing would skip no matter what from hitting bumps in the road and it would produce a loud hissing noise in my speakers so best thing to do is fork over the cash and get a in-dash dvd player and some nice headrest screens.

LOL - I bow to your superior nerd-dome.

It would make my guide even more useful, however, as it gives you over 24 hours of music on the one DVD to listen to whilst driving...

The glass is neither half-full, nor half-empty.
It is simply twice as big as it needs to be.

  5. I bought a 9" TV with VHS for my car so the kids can watch on long trips. They also have TV/DVD availible. It came with cord for my cigarette lighter outlet. Its a life saver during the long hual. It has composite in/out jacks so you can also hook up your playstation to it. I bought it at Walmart for <$200. I have been recording DVD to VHS to play on it.
