    Hi guys,

A friend of mine is looking for a region-free, Macrovision-free DVD player here in Brisbane, Australia. A couple of years ago I would have suggested the fabulous Hiteker AD-700, but unfortunately they no longer seem to be available. Can anyone suggest a good player that either comes region-free and Macro-free straight out of the box or can be hacked without too many hassles? Brand name is totally unimportant, it can be a cheapie Chinese model from one of those discount stores or wherever, just as long as it's available in Briz. I'm totally open to suggestions.

I know you guys won't let me down ...

  2. The Pioneer DV-355 is famously region free and a very good DVD player. I don't think it is Macrovision free but being such a common player, I'm sure there must be a hack...

The inlaws just bought a new Sony here in Oz and that is region free and plays mp3's and the SVCD's I make.
I'm not sure if Macrovision free is such a necessary item unless you are doing DVDtoVHS from the standalone.
A friends machine can do this so I'll find out what he has.

My Omni SD3300 DVD player is region and Macrovision free straight from the box and is currently selling for under AU$200 from Stratfield in Perth. I don't know whether it is available in Brisbane. It is also VCD/SVCD/mp3 and Jpeg compatible. SVCD's run much smoother in the SD3300 compared to my other XMS DVD player.

    Absolutely no idea.
I am surprised to hear you can buy Macrovision free ones off the shelf at all.

But it's good to see so many Aussies crawl out of the woodwork.

May we truly pump the Windies over the next few days.

  6. Go to Brisbane Car Sound and check out the Hyundai 360A slimline. Plays all my DVD-Rs, SVCDs, MP3s etc. The box contained a piece of paper describing how to make it Multizone or region free.
I'm very happy with the Hyundai,....and living in SE Queensland,

Although I do not have one, I have heard the Conia M510 is a damn good buy. Is macro and region free out of the box at A$199 and never breaks down.
