hi, i have encoded to mpeg2 cvd(352x576pal-cbr) and the file size is 780MB but nero displays it over 700MB. Shouldnt it be displayed under the 700MB mark if it is correct. I checked non standard svcd.
The mpeg2 was first encoded in tmpgenc then i cut out commercials in video studio(but it only rendered them, not re-encode).
How do i fix them, i checked in tmpgenc under simple multiplex, but the pulldown only has mpeg2 svcd VBR and mpeg2 system VBR. Which one do i choose, will my video remain cvd(with the 48000hz audio) and does it matter that they're encoded with CBR?
Will it change anything(BR, audio etc.).
    thanks for any help.

"...the file size is 780MB but nero displays it over 700MB. Shouldn't it be displayed under the 700MB mark if it is correct" Maybe I'm confused, but isn't 780mb, greater than 700mb. Why do you think Nero should show a 780mb file less than 700mb? Nero should show it at approx 780mb. Nero should be able to burn it to an 80 minute CD, as VCDs, CVDs and SVCDs are recorded mode-2 which allows for approximately 800mb on an 80 minute CD.

If you encoded to CVD resolution (352 x 480/576) and you want to multiplex a file recorded VBR use MPEG-2 Super VideoCD (VBR). For all intents and purposes CVD uses the same specifications as SVCD except for the resolution.

"...will my video remain cvd(with the 48000hz audio)" no. With 48000hz audio you have made a "half D1" compliant file. CVD and SVCD require 41000hz audio.

Usually when you choose svcd non standard in nero and drag an mpeg2 file across it should show the size of the final svcd video, and not the original video file size. So it isnt recognizing my movie as it should be. It should show my file as below 700MB not the original 780MB, once the bar goes over 700MB it wont let you burn on a 80min cd.
This is why i wanted to know about multipexing in tmpgenc.

If you encoded to CVD resolution (352 x 480/576) and you want to multiplex a file recorded VBR use MPEG-2 Super VideoCD (VBR).
Okay, i've encoded with CBR so do i still choose MPEG-2 Super VideoCD (VBR)?
Or is there any svcd-non standard burning software that will recognize the file size of my video without having to multiplex?

no. With 48000hz audio you have made a "half D1" compliant file. CVD and SVCD require 41000hz audio.
I chose to encode to 352x576 with 48khz so that it will be dvd compliant(so that i can copy them to dvd in the future).
I've already made a cd with these settings and it works just fine.

So i just want nero to see my files correctly, whether to multplex(which would take awhile doing 8hrs worth) or choose another program.
    thanks again

You should use MPEG-2 Super VideoCD (VBR) in TMPGEnc. I'd recomment VCDEasy to author - and Nero to burn if your system isn't supported by VCDEasys built in burning capability.
If you mux like mpeg2 system VBR, you'll see that VCDImager (part of the VCDEasy package) will pad the mpeg to make it SVCD compliant. This will add quite a bit to the final mpeg size - maybe that's what Nero's up to? If nothing else, VCDEasy at least tells you what's going on, something I've found Nero not that good at...

  5. Nero goes by the size of the file and mode type. You should have no problem in burning a 780Mb file as a non-compliant SVCD in Nero. I can go up to 795Mb before Nero starts to refuse to burn it. It's only if you try to burn that 780Mb as a data file (CD ROM or DVD ROM type) that it will throw its head up.

yeah, i just ended up using the multiplex in tmpgenc and now when i insert the files into nero it sees it smaller than the original. So that worked .
But i didnt want to multiplex 6hrs of video so i was gonna try vcdeasy but i cant seem to download the file from tucows, so i gave up and multiplexed .
