    Is there any way of creating a high quality SVCD of 55 min duration on a regualar 74 min CD ? I have tried a few experiments by decreasing the bit rate and using VBR instead of CBR, but the quality really goes down?

    Any suggestions ?

    Instead of 480x480(or 576), try 352x480(576). Perform two pass vbr for best file size control and better quality at a given bitrate.
