Yes you did read correctly. I have a Toshiba SD-R5002 2x DVD Burner. I am seriously wishing I went for the Pioneer or the Sony now...
Bought the new Tango Bulkpaq 4 speed discs after reading a couple of favourable reveiws. However, they will only write at 1x when using Prassi or Nero on 2x or on Max.
Why? Surely being 4x discs I should be able to write at 2x?? Ive had 2x Princo discs that write at 2X and 4x infiniti that wrote at 2x, 2x Datawrite that wrote at 2x.
Anyone know where I can get a firmware upgrade?? the only one I found just increased media compatability.
Anyone thinking of getting a Tosh... dont. They are sh#t and the there is no support on the Tosh website, no firmware upgrades. Spend an extra £40 and get the Pioneer or a Sony... unless you like waiting an hour per disc.

I'm having the same problem. My Toshiba SD-R5002 use to burn at 2x on dvd-r and now burns at 1x. I used Meritline sample pack which includes 6 different media. It burns fine but at 1x Nero says burning at 2x but dvd-r and dvd-rw takes about hour. I just sent Newegg an email and asked if they new anything or do I need an RMA and I didn't see anything on the Toshiba web site. Any ideas.
