  1. Hi All,

I have a Dazzle DVC (DVC I, USB version) and recently I built a new computer with ATI Rage Fury Pro video card which has a video capture facility. The DVC has an S-Video input where as the ATI card does not have an S-Video input. I'm trying to convert my Hi8 tapes into (s)vcd.

Given this setup, I'm wondering which one will give the me the better capture. I've tried capturing the same video piece on both these cards, but am not able to make up my mind. I would appreciate if any of the knowledgeable vcdhelp.com users can share their experiences.

    Thanks in advance!

  2. Hello Speri,

I have a Rage Fury Pro VIVO and a Dazzle DVC Parallel device. I experimented with both of them for a couple of months and for my application I settled on the Rage Fury because it is more stable. I use my system as a PVR and with the Rage Fury I am now quite certain when I set to record the show will be recorded and there will not be a big error message on my screen when I go to watch the program. The Dazzle died on me randomly.

Since you can capture using a MJPEG or Huffy codec and then encode to MPEG with the Rage Fury I would go with it. The DVC captures to MPEG I directly, but if you use the VCD specs the results are unacceptable in my opinion.

  3. Dman65,

Thanks for sharing your experience. You are right, Dazzle DVC can capture to MPEG1 only. But with Rage Fury Pro, I could capture to AVI/MJPEG or other stuff and then re-encode it. BTW, the standard VCD template that comes with the DVC software doesn't produce a quality video, but by changing the video bitrate to around 2500 kbits/s, I could get a better capture.
