It's OK but way overpriced when there are programs like DVDshrink which works well and is free.

I love DVDxcopy but you better check out Instant copy you can make the movie fit on one disk with the menu's with little or no noticeable quality loss on most movies, sure it does take few hours to encode but its ok I can do other stuff while its doing it.

Dvd shrink and DVD2one are good but cant get menu's without all the extra's using DVD2one and the menu's never work when using DVD shrink for me.

yea, but instant copy could not deal with the copy gaurd, at least this was the case when i tried it .................

Use DVD Decrypter first (to remove copy guards) then either go with Pinnacle InstantCopy if you want to keep menus and extras or DVD2One if you just want to keep the movie.

Using 2 blank DVDs to backup a movie... If you use those better DVD-Rs(Pioneers, TDK - $4-8 a piece), it will be better to buy another original DVD from BestBuy or something.

DVDXcopy was OK a few months back but now most people dont wanna split onto two disks so are using DVD2one or DVD95copy or the great free prog DVDshrink. I cant see myslef going back to DVDXcopy and I think they may have missed the boat a bit now unless they come up with something clever, plus you could alwyas split your DVDs for free with IFOedit, although it is a bit tricky to learn

It used to be great, but I now prefer DVDshrink. DVDXcopy was a big pain to work with, as it was buggy, and the writing to disc wasn't always great (not very good compatibility).

Great for its time, but that has passed, and it is now a dinosaur.

Like others in the thread I mostly use DVD2ONE but there are times when DVDXCOPY is used. For example I use this on longer movies such as Titanic, Green Mile etc where if you try to put those on one disk you get poor quality. My only pet peeve with DVDXCOPY is that sometimes it will not tell you to insert disk 2 when watching a movie and it just freezes. Sometimes it works. Weird. I also hate how they don't select the settings from the original disk on disk 2. You always have to turn off the useless subtitles. It should use the same information from the main disk. Anyone else agree with this?

I am still very happy w/ DVD X COPY, although I have begun using DVDShrink more often, especially for movies that are just a hair over 4.3 GB (like "I Am Trying to Break Your Heart") or movies where I don't care as much about the final look -- and even then, the higher compression levels in DVDShrink don't look that bad...

I still use and love DVDxCOPY, especially for longer movies where I want to retain quality, but DVDShrink is fast and easy to use (and I love the all the re-encoding options!) -- I consider myself fairly "at home" in front of a computer but I must admit that I hate the switching from app to app and time-consuming tweaking that comes with most complete DIY/Freeware setups (using Smartripper, Decryptor, or whatever) Some of those tools definitely have a use for me outside of backing up movies, but I prefer "one-click" apps when it comes to making cheap b/ups of my DVDs.

Here is my take on the subject........


I use both DVDXCOPY and Pinnacle IC 7.

I have had DXC since 12-7-02 and have had IC 7 since it went retail last month.

Sure, DXC has had quite a few issues with episodics and some compatiblity issues. But those were usually on the users end (funky dvd player, cheap media, certain software conflicts, etc) but I was one of the many out there that didn't have to complain since it has worked for me since day one. People need a break when watching a long movie that runs close to 3 hours so it is wonderful to split it to two discs and keep perfect quality.


IC7 has been tremendous aside from the wrong output size issue. Good quality throughout, longest movie I have done with it was The Patriot and the movie itself turned out wonderful, the extras suffered but I kept them anyway. And it has done wonders for episodics.

DXC is overpriced considering what is available today and that is what hurts it the worst. Because naturally, we are all here to get something as cheap as we can here.

But I for one am very excited at the prospect of DXC Platinum. It will supposedly do everything that all of these programs do combined. So I feel it will be the ultimate DVD backup program. But it is still a few weeks or so away hopefully.


So, like with all the programs out there, they each have their own pros and cons.

Yeah Ive been waiting for platinum DVDXCopy for a while it was supposed to be out this month should be ready next month , I hope.
Its supposed give you options to keep out languages and subtitles and other options I dont know about, to try to make it fit on 1 disc. No compression Im sure.


Ive also been using instant copy what I do is out put the menu's and movie on 1 disc then the extra's and special features on the 2nd disc this is the only program Ive been able to do it this way and make it work.

I only wish I hadnt split some movies with DVDXCOPY like 5-5.5 gig movies before instantcopy was available, now I have some movies with
4gigs on the 1st disc and 1gig on the 2nd disc. crap

wrong about other programs I have been able to split movie only with DXC or DVD2ONE then extras on another disc with DXC and burn them all using either nero or recordnow DX, I never have a movie presay on 2 disc, always on one, maybe movie only but just on 1 disc now.
DVDshrink is OK can't even come close to the quality that DVD2ONE has to offer.

Personally, I think that DVDXCOPY is a complete waste of cash. I use IfoEdit whenever I have to split something because it's free. I can't understand how they think that they can get away with charging 90 or 100 bucks for that thing. I could understand IC7 or maybe DVD2ONE charging that kind of cash with the compressing they have to do, but IfoEdit does the same thing, without the stupid DVDXCOPY logo on every DVD you burn. Did I mention it's free? Yes, it's probably not as user friendly as DVDXCOPY, but that's why we have the knowledgable people at this wonderful website to write guides for us. Don't waste the cash, take the extra 30 minutes to learn IfoEdit, and you'll be patting yourself on the back later.

Why don't you just take your original DVD and make another backup copy using InstantCopy?
