  1. Just bought a brand new DVD and tried to rip it using
    Smartripper 2.34

It get to about 300 meg on the first vob file then
gives error saying "Can't read block 155317, unlock
    again NOW and retry"

I have a new DVD-Rom drive Pioneer DVD-116. It gave the
same error with my old DVD-Rom drive which was a Pioneer 6X/32X

I can play the DVD with no problems though.

Am I doing something wrong within Smartripper? I think
I've set all the settings correctly within Smartripper

    Setting: Movie

    Keycheck-every vob file
    File Splitting-every vob file
Options-unlock drive, Demacrovision, Copy IFO file
    VOB File access-aspi(1GB file)
    Search Intensity-1

    Setting: File/Backup
    Keycheck-every vob file
    Options-Unlock drive,DeMacrovision
    VOB File Access-aspi(1 GB file)
    Search Intensity-1

  2. Try another ripper, I suggest DVD Decrypter, they have a new 3.0 beta, it just rips right now, by the time it's released, it'll be good.

  3. You need to unlock the drive. if i don't play the dvd for a few seconds with windvd or powerdvd it will do that because not all vobs are unlocked.

SmartRipper used to be such an excellent program that never failed, no matter what. Now I find I always have to unlock the drive. I hesitate to blame SmartRipper because I still like to use it ... otherwise, it's wonderful.

Does anyone else suspect Windows updates are affecting SmartRipper?

  5. you have to unlock your drive, or I found lots of times, you have to clean your dvd disc. that ususally works for me when I get that message

  6. I had a couple of new DVDs noce, and smartripper didn't like them, and they played crappy. They looked perfect, but I took them over to the ol' buffing machine, and in a couple of secs, they acted just fine, everywhere. I think it's because the data is so small and packed, compared with audio discs, that teensy scratches can affect them. Whenever I rent a DVD, I usually buff it first as a matter of course.

  7. Just figured it out

I had my Pioneer DVD-Rom set as the master drive and my CD-RW burner set as a slave drive when it caused all my problems with Smartripper.

When I changed the CD-RW burner as the master and the Pioneer DVD-ROM drive as the slave drive, I could rip the
    DVD fine.

Also, if I had only the Pioneer DVD-Rom drive on that IDE
    cable, it worked fine

Not sure why this works but it does. Maybe it's because I had DirectCD installed that could have caused it but you can't disable DirectCD, it has to be uninstalled.
