  1. My DVD-RW is on the way and i will receive it probably this week (in few day, I will have all sort of problems as everyone here )

So I plan to format my computer to start fresh (I also need to convert to NTFS)

So, which software do I need with a DVD-RW ?

    Instant Copy 7
    DVDShrink 1.3
    DVD2One
    DVDXCopy

And to burn ? Nero or RecordNow Max ?

Did I miss something ? ASPI or something ?

    Thanks

EDIT: THis forum should have a "Getting started" thread..

    What drive have you ordered?

    I assume from your list you are talking DVD backups. I have a A105 and use;

    DVDDecrypter to rip
    DVD2One
    Instant Copy
    Nero to Burn

Another important decision is media. Check the DVD Media section (over on the left) to see who has had success with what media with your drive.

Also, while you are begining, always burn to a RW disk. Its a cheaper way to make mistakes.

    Good luck.

  3. It really depends what you want to do and how much you want to spend.

This is a new item but thought it was well written and free for DVD backup.
    http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/mpg/dvdshrink-main.htm
IF you follow the links it will take you all the way to burning to DVDR.

You have come to the right place for help.

READ, READ, READ everything you can at DVDRhelp and DOOM9

  4. The drive I have ordered is the Hitachi (LG) 4020B DVD-RW DVD-RAM.

Of curse, the main purpose is to make backup copy

And for the price of software, I don't mind.. just want the best and easyest (euh.. ifoedit ? )

I have ordered 20 Princo DVD-R (this is what one of my friend use, and it work on my DVD standalone player)

    Try this method
    1.Rip the movie with DVDDecrypter
    2.Shrink to size with DVD2ONE
3.Burn to DVD with Nero Express
    4.Enjoy

  6. It also depend on software that is packed with your burner. That's why you need to specify which burner you have.

Yes you did. But it was after I clicked on Reply button.... Yes... it took me 30 minutes to finish my reply since I had to do somethink else in a mean time. That information was missing from original post.

Anyway, since it is not Sony (what I have) I can't help you there

    vric,

It will be that easy, with those 3 programs and everyone here at DVDRHELP.com you will have a great DVD backup in about 2 to 3 hours, all depending on your computer.

    vric,

Instead of using DVD2ONE, you could try DVD Shrink its free and growing in popularity, and I think there is even a guide for it. Even though you dont have your burner yet, check out a few of the guides on DVD burning and check out which one would be best for you.

    DVDDecrypter - rip
    VOBRator - analyze
IfoEdit - split to 2 DVDs, movie only copy, make region free, Get VTS
    Nero - burn

    Here is my computer:

    Pentium 4 2.53 Ghz
    Asus P4S8X SRL 1.005.008
    512meg OCZ DDR333 Performance Series @ 400Mhz
    IBM 30G 60GXP
    Sound Blaster Audigy
    Leadtek a280 LE TD MyViVo (Geforce 4 Ti-4200 8X)
    Pioneer DVD 16X
    Liteon 40X Burner
    LG DVD Burner 4020B
    Full Tower Custom 400W moded

I did some test with DVDShrink, First with extra was crap then the second try (only movie + menu) was nice.. I have tryed IC7, but didn't have the patience to finish it completly..

Mainly, I want to make Movie only + Menu copy.. As I have read, only DVDShrink make this ? (and ifoedit, but it look so hard to learn)

Not true Just go to doom9.org for guides.... I am using only 3 methods to do backup.

    1. If DVD is less then 4.37GB (1-Layer) -> DVD Decrypter; Make region free with IfoEdit (load VIDEO_TS.IFO and hit region free button)

    2. If DVD is more (2-Layers) and movie only can fit on 1 DVD and extras are not good I use "Movie Only" guide from doom9.org

    3. If DVD is more (2-Layers) and dosn't fit even I stripped all extra languages and subtitles or extras are worth of extra disk, I use 1to2 guide from doom9.org.

Just follow exaxtly what is in guide and you should not have problem. Only problem that I had was with 2-Angles movie that I was able to figure out by reading another doom9.org guid. TRUST ME ! It is easy.

I always do movie only, but if you want menu and extras IC7. I am not sure how to do movie, menu, but no extras. Any way here is my method.

1.rip main movie with DVDDecrypter (about 20 min)
2.shrink to size with DVD2ONE (about 30 to 40 min)
    3.burn to Verbatim DVD-R at 2x (about 35 min)
4.put finished dvd into DVD player (about 20 sec. )
    5.Enjoy

  17. You should've gotten an Pioneer A04 or A05 as you can easily find the hack firmware for those drives that will enable you to burn cheap 1x media at 2x.

I have a Pioneer A04 myself and I use princos which burn at 1x without the hacked firmware, but at 2x with the hacked firmware. So far, I have burned 10 DVDs at 2x, and they all work on my Pioneer DV 525.

You should try it and see -- it'll save you a few bucks since 1x media is dirt cheap nowdays and the A04 goes for $180 USD without any rebate or special... I've heard you can find the A05 for 130 with MIR and other specials but those are hard to find.

    A05 Normal Price: 499$Can Best Price: 399$Can (269$US)
LG Normal Price: 349$Can Best Price: 289$Can (193$US)

110$Can difference.. With 110$. I can buy lot of media

and for the speed I don't mind waiting for 1 hour to burn a DVD. Just look a movie when you are doing this or go play a game on my second Computer (Athlon XP 1800+)

  19. Why no one here mentions Rempeg?
It is so simple to make movie smaller (so that quite often it will fit to one DVD) with IfoEdit and Rempeg, that after you have tried it once, you will spen the rest of your life wondering why you did not do it before.

  20. Answer is very simple in my case. By re-encoding you loose quality. By using my (guide from doom9.org, so not realy my) method you don't.
