What is the concensus on "Meritline brand" media? I got a few in a sampler pack, DVDInfo reports them to be made by Ricoh. They burned OK, but I've not had opportunity to test them in several different set top players or PS2 or Xbox. As far as quailty, the two I got seemed ok, the Ritek disks that came in the sampler had what looked like bubbles between the plastic layers around the center ring of the disk, made me wonder about the rest of the disk. The Meritlines did not have these bubbles.

well I can't speak for a consensus, but the Meritline's I bought were pure ass, only suitable for data.
furthermore, the spindle I bought had a few different types of discs in it. If you held the spindle up to the light you could see the layers. there were 10 or so that were pure garbage, and the others were okay for data. -
I'm specifically looking at their 4X media. Has anyone tried these in quantity?

I have used Ritek (G03) 1 X media without any problems and have seen no bubbles what so ever. It burns properly at 2X with the firmare upg. as well.

I've brought about 200 or so of their Meritline brand 4x discs.
Out of the 200, I've only had about 4 iffy burns where the movie stuttered.
They're Ritek G04's according to the header, btw.....I've only brought these and 'official' Riteks from them.
Burning on a DVR-105, plays on everything including PS/2.
I'd stay away from the other media they offer, though...

Airr,
Ritek G04's huh... the other Meritline brand media I got in a sampler was Ricoh according to the header...
Which media are you referring to stay away from? The offer the Samsung BeAll disks which are fantastic quality, as well as Yuden, which are remarked as the best quality in many posts I've read. But those are significantly more expensive, and I want to start burning @ 4X. 16 minutes to burn a full DVD is euphoric. Rima has 4X Princo's, but from everything I've ever heard about those, those are awful quality. -
Funny... Meritline is out of stock on both the Ritek 4X and the Meritline 4X, both due back at the same time... coincidence? I think not...
I've used several Ritek disks, both -R and +R. On every disk, right around the center hole, there are what looks like bubbles between the plastic layers. The disks burned and played fine in all the players I checked, but I wonder about their longevity with questionable manufacturing quality -

As to the others, I'd stay away from 'em simply because of the price.
