I've had very good luck with the Accu DVD-R media. I've burned over 60 and made only three or four coasters, which are probably my fault. I've backed up movies, created home movies and backed up data. The movies have played just fine in my standalone player. The only "glitch" that I've encountered is that I've had some problem reading back from the data disc in my DVD-ROM drive. I get some strange error. However, the same data discs will read just fine in the DRU-500a. I don't know if this is an DVD-ROM problem, media problem, or something else. Otherwise, I have been very pleased with this media.

I endorse them as well. I use a pioneer 104 drive. Some folks seem to like to slam these but I think they are a great "value", not the cheapest.

I've used these disks with no problems - except once - I normally burn at 1X but I accidentally burned at 2X and the disk quit playing near the end of a 2 hour video. My mistake. Used properly they are very good value for the money.

  8. Two Words for ACCU: DA' BEST! People just don't seem to get it. They continue to want to believe that expensive media=Quality...lol...keep buyin' up those Verbatim 2.4x DVD+R's and leave the ACCU's for me.

    @Dunamis, I hope that isn't a pic of you.

ACCU = NIGHTMARE, I only successfully burned about 30 something out of 50pcs.

I use the Ritek DVD-R now. It burn up to 2X with my Sony DRU-500A w/ firmware 1.0f, so far so good.

ps: hope you haven't buy the ACCU yet! Good Luck!

One way to distinguish between Accurate post and bullshit posts are by simple mathematics. Take a look at ALL THE responses. One person claims to have trouble with "ACCU" media...while COUNTLESS others don't. You figure out that real deal. I bet "nelson" doesn't know the difference between "ACCU" media and "HUUUCHEWWW" media. ACCU ARE da' shiizznittzz!

What about longevity. Burning without problems is one thing lasting is another. Does Accu make any claims on media longevity or are we all just supposed to hope these don't become unreadable after 3 or 4 years like all the Princo's you hear about.

To my knowledge, ACCU disks are good for about 100 years. The truth is that ONLY time will tell about ANY of that. All these other companies that claim to have their disks good for 100 years are just as likely to have them have issues as many other companies. Unless you can actually have certain media "tested" for 100 years, and then make that claim....to me..there is no factual evidence they will last that long. I know there are countless tests which those companies conduct to make that claim seem legit..but without the "actual" 100 years passing by and having the disk still play..well....it's all just mumbo jumbo to me.

As far as Princo's go...I've never read ANYWHERE when someone said they lost their disks after 3-4 years...if you can post a link showing that, i'd like to see it. I have, however, read posts where people have had that issue after a few MONTHS. Seems like a lot of Princo are garbage media...i've never tried any so I don't know.

But the last thing about those ACCU's is the ONLY other post I ever read where someone was not happy with "ACCU" media was when a poster actually bought their ACCU disks off of EBAY...lmao...who knows what they got.....buying them off of EBAY..I wouldn't be surprised if they got a 50 pack of those "clear" disks that go on the bottom of the spindles and then burned them and said they sucked and made coasters.

I've burned 50 ACCU from Meritline so far with a A04 without any problems in standalone players . I do have a problem playing them in one of my PCs with an old Toshiba DVD-ROM, but no problems playing them in my other PCs/Laptops or standalones.

Yeah I have burned just around 400 so far with no problems, but this new batch of 200 I bought from Meritline seems to have a problem.

I noticed that the discs themselves are different there are no longer transparent like they used to be...... I thought this would be a good thing? but now I have:

2 out of 7 players that won't play them if burned at 2X
    and
1 out of 7 players that won't play them if burned at 1X

Any ideas? Anyone else seen this on the new ones? Did you buy yours from Meritline?

  21. I bought them from CDRDVDRMEDIA.COM. They are the same company as Meritline. I returned these this morning. I had to really fight with the people there to issue me an RMA, and they are still threatening me with a restock fee. I have involved my CC company and they said "no worries... I will get all of my money back." A word of warning for anyone dealing with CDRDVDRMEDIA or Meritline, their customer service is pitiful!

You take one experience and you try and blame the merchant? As I said on the other thread, it is your fault and ONLY your fault. You purchased "ACCU" disks..not LD's and NOT SONY. You got LD's..those are the breaks.

This is AFTER you used some of the disks. You could of returned them as soon as you saw they weren't "SONY" through DVDINFO or ADVDINFO. Then you want to turn around and say that the merchant is responsible. Of course I'm sure you told your CC company that cdrdvdrmedia.com GUARANTEED you the "SONY's" when I know that is utter BULLSHIT. I had to pull teeth just to get them to tell me they would do their best on my order. They always say they have no clue what gets sent out from the warehouse. I mean, what a joke!...you purchased "ACCU" and you got ACCU...If I was your CC company, and you whined like that, I would tell you to take those disks and your credit card and shove them where the sun doesn't shine.

  23. I used that kprobe program to analyze PI errors and noticed that the avg C1 number and C2 was much higher for accus than the other discs I have tried.

However, the other discs I've used were Ritek G03, Taiyo Yuden 2x -R and Apple 2x -R. Apple had an avg C1 of like 2.6, Taiyo at 1.9, G03 at like 4-6 I believe and Accu was low double digits.

YOU DO get what you paid for as long as you know what's good and what's not, there's a reason Accus are cheap.

lol..you do huh? Then how bout those Verbatim disks which are now selling for $2 a piece, that's half the price of the TDK's and Maxell's..i'm sure your probe program would show greatness for those CHEAP disks. How bout Ritek's for a dollar a piece or so? Those are cheap too, right? What were the manufacturer Id's of the ACCU's you tested and how many did you test? Also, where did you get that Kprobe program you are referring to?
    Quote Quote
  25. @boden11, It took some time but I found and d/l'd this Kprobe app. I'm just curious..what functions did you select to analyze the P1 errors? I see several choices on the top/left drop down box, and many others in the sub trees of those. Did you choose from the raw cmd tab "Get Performance" then "write performance" followed by selecting the "performance" tab and then selecting start?

If you did that, your numbers are much higher then the ones I just got testing my SONY ACCU's. If that was your method, what was your resulting C1 and C2 figures? If that wasn't how you tested these disks, then please tell me the options you selected, so that I can conduct my own tests with not only my ACCU disks, but my Verbatim DVD-R, DVD+R, and Maxell DVD-R's.

  26. put it in ur dvd-rom drive (the dvd u burned) and select the rom drive and then tab to write strategy, the presets should be ok

    c1c2/pipo
    realtime chart
    XX speed max

    disc size

then just push start. im not 100% sure how accurate it is on the specific sectors being ok (like my dvd-rom drive has issues reading ritekg03s past like 3.8 gigs and so there were a lot of c1/c2 errors past that point, but i dunno if that was a dvd-rom issue or what since they all play fine in my standalone). but i think if u look at the big picture and not at individual points or abberations it gives u a good idea at where the media stands. like the avg c1 for taiyos was 1.9-2.2 ish and apples was 2.6-2.8 and g03 was 8.5-11 or so but accu was like dobule digits (and 20s-30s too). and notice how taiyos are the most expensive when not purchased in bulk followed by apple, g03 and then accu....not just a coincidence.

u dont need the disc to be perfect tho, ill probly stick with g03 for movies i thought were ok/decent or for stuff i copy for friends (hehehe, why waste a $3 disc on them? ) and taiyos for good stuff.

  27. whine whine whine. im speaking generally here, and the accus i tested (from cdrdvdrmedia) showed much higher c1/c2 errors than any of the other more expensive bulk media. comparing off the shelf stuf thats way expensive to bulk quality thats less money doesn't work. if u pick one good store (rima.com) and u buy one or two pieces of every type of media they had, i bet u *ANYTHING* that in general, the more the media cost, the fewer c1/c2 pisum errors.

  28. @Boden, I don't whine, I bump and grind. My name isn't abysea. You still haven't mentioned what the manufacturer ID was of those ACCU's you tested or where you purchased them. How bout supplying that info?

Also, you post a tool like "KPROBE" which probably shouldn't even be available as it's still in Beta Testing and has issues. From my research, it's apparently being used by the R&D team of Lite-On with their soon to be released DVD Burners.

You also shouldn't be so fast to compare price to Quality, because the ACCU's I tested had an average of 1.5 for c1. I am gonna run more tests on more of my ACCU's, but if those numbers are accurate, I can really see why these ACCU disks burn and play soo soo smoothly. Those numbers are better then ANY of the disks you tested. I will conduct more tests, but please post WHERE you purchased your ACCU disks and what the manufacturer ID of those disks were. 8)

Update: I am not familiar with write strategy and pits and grooves and c1 and c2, but I just conducted more tests with different ACCU's, both white top and silver top. Here is what i'm getting on average when the test completes.

First, let me mention that the first thing I Do is put my "burned" ACCU in my DVD ROM, which happens to be a "LITE-ON 166S", and then go to the cmd tab and select "GET PERFORMANCE" followed by "WRITE PERFORMANCE" and then I go to the "Write Strategy" tab and leave the defaults of C1C2/PIPO and max speed, etc. And then I hit "start."

After the test was all said and done here are the results.

    PI: MAX: 201 TOTAL: 999609 AVG: 64.512

    PO: MAX: 50 TOTAL: 11504 AVG: 0.742

I had saw the avg during the beginning at about 1 or so for that PO, and as I mentioned above, If that has anything to do with the C1, then it appears these ACCU results are much lower for me then they were for you. If i'm doing something different from what you did Boden, let me know.

I'll try other functions as well and see if I can do a little research and figure any of their meanings out. Because in all honestly, I don't have much of a clue what all these numbers mean. I will say that just as you mentioned your disks play on your standalone player, I can tell you that I don't care if you spend 80 cents or $80 on a blank disk, there's no way it plays ANY better then my ACCU disks. That's a fact.

I just wanted to add my two cents.

I burn constantly: I burn about 10-15 movies a week on my PC (I split all dual layered to two disc) I burn PS2 games and I am collecting several TV shows with my HS2 set top.

I have gone through about 1000 ACCU DVDR form cdrdvdrmedia.com and I've had very few problems. Once in a while my HS2 or DMR-E20 will spit out one of the discs or I'll have a glitchy movie, but that's VERY rare.

I normally subscribe to the "You get what you pay for." theory, but since I'm burning at least 125 discs a month, paying $2-$5 a disc just isn't reasonable to me.

I can get 500 ACCU DVDR for $350 shipped. And they work fairly well. What more could I ask for?
    Quote Quote
  30. 64.5 avg c1 is HIGH, my taiyos were high 1s-low 2s, apples were mid-high 2's, g03s were like 8-12 and my accu (actually read in as leaddata, LD) were like 35-40 avg. shrug

it all really depends on how ur using the discs and what demands u put on them. a lot of the stuff im archiving, id still like to have work on me in 5-7 yrs...mebbe even beyond that. now if u were just copying stuff for friends, hell yah i would just use accus or g03s or whatnot. my personal stuff is taiyo tho, cuz i fig its worth the extra $1.00/disc to know that it's going to work well for some time to come.,
