If this is happening than I assume this must be a VCD and you live in a PAL region? Reason I say this is because ntscfilm (23.976fps) DVDs and SVCDs should play properly on just about any DVD player/TV combo, and ntscfilm VCDs only seem to not work on PAL DVD players. If you do not live in a PAL region than please give more info regarding how this disk was made, because it should be working if you made it correctly.

So if your in a PAL region than the logical thing to do is just convert your ntscfilm VCD to PAL. This will result in far less quality loss than converting to NTSC, but you are still going to lose quality just because you are re-encoding your video.

I believe there are some ntscfilm to pal conversion guides on this site but anyway, just load your mpg into TMPGenc. Load the PAL VCD template and on the advanced tab click the do not framerate conversion filter. On the main tab set the stream type to video only and hit start.

To do the audio I would use BeSweet. Just load your mp2 and set output to mp2. If you look on the lower left there is a preset for 23.976->25fps. Set this and hit the mp2 to mp2 button on the right.

Once both encodes are done you will have an m1v and an mp2. Multiplex them together using either TMPGenc (file/mpeg tools/simple multiplex) or BBmpeg.

  3. Thanks for your answer. I do not live in a PAL region, i live in Canada. My dvd player is a JVC XV-N40. It is a new model that i have bought last week. You want to know how i convert my files. First i am newbee to that so it is possible that i do something wrong. I open virtualdub then i load my file, then i look for information to see the framerate. Most of the time it is 23.976. I also extract the audio, Full processing mode, conversion 44100hz, compression, no compression (PCM) then i save it as a wave. After i open TMPGEnc, since i want to make a svcd i choose NTSCFILM, because that is what it says to do if you have a file with 23.976 fr and you want to convert to svcd. I then choose my avi file and also load my audio file. IN TMPGEnc Setting i rate control mode CONSTANT BIT RATE (CBR) bitrate 25.20. Then full screen (keep aspect ratio). Also somebody told me to leave the Inverse Telecine.

    To finish i convert.

What is weird is that all of my movies, after converting, will not play on my dvd player when they are 23.976, but will do on my friend dvd player. My strandalone is NTSC compatible, svcd, vcd, cd-r, cd-rw. It is region1 and is also PAL compatible if there is a 1 in the region code. I did found out that all the conversion that i did with 29.97 movie files will work with no problem. Also all the ones that have a cue sheet will work. Maybe my standalone does not play 23.976 files. I did try to search the forum to find the way to convert these files into 29.97, but there is so many opinions that anyone will get lost.

Maybe you know what is my problem.
    Thanks a million
