  1. I want to buy a dvd-rom just to rip DVD to divx. so my question is: Does it matter wich DVD-Rom i have? it will afect the quality of the final ripped movie? That's all

  2. It doesn't matter which DVD drive you have, it won't do anything to quality, but if you want speed of ripping, i'd highly recommand the Pioneer drives.

  3. i just bought the AOpen DVD-1640 PRO and it is SMOKIN!!! it costed me $90 CAD. i find it a lot better than my previous Pioneer (firmware issues). i can rip a DVD in about 8 minutes.

Oh this is gonna hurt a bit, I don't know if you know this, but the Aopen (all the drives acutally) and your model the 1640 PRO is a Pioneer 106S (unless you got the Tray drive, then it's the 116T) Drive! yeah I know it's shocking, but if you want proof I can provide, but i'd need to give you a link to Region Free firmware, and I can't post it on the forum, so, enjoy your Pioneer

    by the way, the reason the 1640/106 drive overperforms your previous drive is because it is the only DVD drive with UltraDMA66, unlike most other drives which either use the UDMA33 or PIO4!

  5. It actually doesnt really matter wha DVD you get.... I purchased the Delta 12x at Circuit City last month for 20.00 after rebate. I've been ripping some high quality sheet with it... Just my 2 cents
