FYI![]()
I have been running into commercial movies that are encoded using different methods ie; top field, bottom field, progressive and interlaced mixed into one program stream. If you run an encoder such as CCE on this mess it will end up in choppy frames. You have to isolate the different cells and demux them and encode them seperately or use a program such as DVD2One to shrink the entire program stream. "program stream" being the movie.
Now the question. Using CCE on a bottom field first encoded stream leaving the top field first unchecked in CCE's options is still rendering a Top Field first stream which obviously ends up being a choppy picture.
Is there a work around for this.
CCE 2.66.01.07

A program that costs $2000 shouldn't have a bug in field order since it is the most widely use.
Thanks~! -
yes - well i recieve updates and bug reports from them with work arounds or patchs , i guess you only get those if you buy it ..
-
Before I shell out the money it would be helpful if you could tell me if there patches and work arounds work well or if they cause complications.
I've had difficulties in the past with software companies and there claims and try to "listen" to the web for problems.
Obviously I have a trial and have been putting it through the motions to determine its value.
An honest answer would be appreciated. -
to be honest - no
they have not been super helpfull - but a little steer in the right direction helps .. they have a superb product ...a few little hicups , but can be over come ..
i have seen $75,000+++ programs/systems with a lot more bugs . -
Thank you!!
So have I and that is what I am referring to. Since this is my own business I need to be careful but so far it seems that CCE has what others don't.
I'll wait until the bug is fixed in the top and bottom field and go from there.
Appreciate your honest input!!! -
Hello "damnim",
This problem is not so much a bug as a logic trap for the uninformed. For reasons best known to themselves Cinemacraft in versions 2.64 and 2.66 changed the operation of the field selection checkbox from being a normal logical switch to that of a toggle switch - without changing the text written alongside the box!
The normal state of the encoder is upper field first, and if you want lower field first you have to toggle the encoder by checking the upper field first box.
This may seem to be totally illogical, but my understanding is that one of the major software writers is of the "other sex" and therefore "inverted logic" is only to be expected.
Try it for yourself - it works.
Good luck, Dick. -
Thanks, I'll give it a shot. If I remember correctly tho when I ran bitrate viewer on the encoded file it came up with top field first checked or unchecked. I'll give it another shot by encoding some samples.

default is top field first in 2.67 .. you have to set it to match your source files ..

I only use CCE for encoding Wedding Video and burn in ReelDVD. I spend time almost yesterday to finger out how to do my video smooth in motions picture but I still have problem., "how I set it to match in source file"....
Thanks. -

From what ive heard cce always encodes top field first nomatter what this box is checked. It just shifts the screen down one pixel. I heard that the best way to do this is to encode your bottom field first video top field first. Then use pulldown src.mpv dest.mpv -nopulldown -tff even.

how is your weddings video shot ? if its DV , its bottom field first always and you would enter a 1 or 3 in the field box (where is says 0 right now) ..

I shot only DV, CCE have 2 field is say 0 like Offset line in Advance -> Video and another one is Frame # in Timecode setting. I think you say enter 1 or 3 in Offset line, right? and all the fields in Advance -> Video are uncheck, would you advice me which field I should check in those boxes.
Thanks.
