  1. Man, I have got to learn about this program, but it's driving me nuts. I mainly want to use so I can learn to identify when I need to do IVTC or de-interlacing and how to go about doing each of those processes.

But, I go find this website that wants to hold your hand and go step by step so you understand and they teach you a one line script that goes

avifilesource("myclip.avi") and your supposed to save it as myclip.avs and it should open up the avi in Windows Media Player so long as it's version 6.4. Well my version is and it will not recognize the file.

Now, I have done everything possible with this simple script to make it work. Checked spacing, my spelling, case sensitivity, paths to the AVI, no path to the avi but same folder. The thing does'nt play.

Where can I go to find out how to use this program with virtualdub and dvd2avi and GKnot? I use it now to frameserve to TMPGenc from Premiere, but that is a rote process.

Please help me find a good source.

    Thanks.

    Maybe you should start with
    avisource("yourmovie.avi")

Actually 'AviFileSource' is a valid variation and should work.

The first step is to work out why this one-line script doesn't work - what message do you get if you try to load it into TMPGEnc?

yes, but avisource (regarding the manual) is more flexible and works with all avis!Maybe the right codec isn't installed.Does the avi play itself in the WMP or with VDub?

I guess we should also ask if Avisynth has been installed correctly - otherwise the association of AVS scripts to the Avisynth.dll wont work and the AVS file will be seen as nothing more than a text file.

(Athough the last paragraph of the original post suggests that it's working in some form or other).

  6. how about opening it up in virtual dub first rather than media player
How long could we maintain? I wondered. How long until one of us starts raving and jabbering at this boy? What will he think then?

  7. Okay. I'm using a simple AVI that comes with Windows called "radar.avi".

    My script looks like this:

    AVIFileSource(c:\my documents\radar.avi)

    The script is called "Myclip.avs"

When I load it into WMP I get this error:

Script error: expected a, or )
    (C:\My Documents\myclip.avs, line 1, column 16)

This is actually an improvement. At least I know WMP is accessing the script. Column 16 is either the colon, (counting from the very beginning of the script), or the second backslash, (counting from the beginning of the avi path.

The strange thing, to me at least, is that WMP acts as though it's playing something: No video, but the time marker is moving.

  8. Did you include the filename in quotes like the first post?

  9. I did it both ways. With the quotes it gave me a different message. (Computer is busy, can't double check what it was).

I also changed the path to C:\radar.avi and the avi file changed accordingly. Both quotes and no quotes.

This thing is supposed to be simple but seems incredibly difficult.

I can't believe I am successful using it with premiere and TMPGenc.
