I create chapters before burning my DVDs, but when I put the DVD in my player...all I can get is the 1st thumbnail menu only view before playing the disk. (hardly a "menu" with only one single thumbnail to "chose" from)

Isn't there a setting or way to make All the thumbnails I've created in the multi-chapter-menu show up 1st? (and not just that initial one single thumbnail), so I can chose a chapter point to start my DVD play with?
(The same is happening with my DVDs chaptered and burned using Ulead's MovieFactory2).

I use a Dazzle capturing system that Only lets me capture into Mpeg. So that is all I work with. I never do any DV/AVI video.....

  2. I think I got the additional chapter menu to show by pressing the right arrow button on the remote (-->). It's not really intuitive in my opinion.

    joeagain,

    Here's what I do with MF2:

1 - Set my mpeg settings (custom if I have to) to what I have for videos to add to the DVD. It does fine at audio, not at video.
2 - Grab the first video, add it in.
3 - Grab the second video, add it in.
4 - Keep doing this for each.
5 - Click on 'create chapter menus'
6 - I do auto at every 10 mins AND --> apply to all video files.
6.5 If you add/remove videos, you'll have to recreate the chapters.
7 - Modify the titles and chapter names as necessary.
8 - Run the preview to see exactly how the finished product will work.
(8.5 Keep trying to figure out how to get the chapter numbers to map to the number pad on the remote...)
9 - Create output to ISO to the hard drive.
10 - Burn the ISO with Nero.
    Have a good one,

    neomaine

    thanks guys,
the -> button only starts the video playing, it doesn't show any of the chapters I created, unfortunately.

Neomaine, thank you for that info...but I really don't add more than one large video capture to each DVD project, so the applying chapters "to all videos" is not a problem. And friends of mine use Nero to burn after authoring and chaptering with MF2, but I've always had excellent burns with MF, so I don't need to use a 2nd program for that.

But is there a way to have MF and VS not show that main(one image)"menu"...and start right off with the chapter menus instead?

THAT's really what I need it to do!

Is there a way to make it do that, please?

Now I know what you're looking for. I agree, you don't need a main menu if you only have one video file. I'll check tonight when I get home.

    Thanks, neomaine

I hope there is a setting I'm missing to have it do that, since my DVD player remote appears incredably difficult(if at all possible) to navigate to a chapter menu screen.

And if you've chaptered a DVD, it seems pointless have it not start that way anyway. I wish the programs were smart enough to do that automatically when you've made chapters, you know?

(If you chose the 1st chapter, the whole DVD will play anyway unless you stop it to return to another chapter, right?)

  7. OK, I revisited this issue last night and here is the scoop. If you created a main menu AND chapter menus during the authoring, the DVD should come up showing the main menu by default. On the main menu, you have the title, a thumbnail and an arrow icon. The title is just text but you can select either the arrow icon OR the thumbnail by using the arrow keys on your remote control. If you press the play button on the remote control OR select the arrow icon on the main menu, the movie will just start playing. However, if you navigate using the arrow keys on your remote control so that the one and only thumbnail on the main menu is selected and press the enter(select) button on your remote, it will take you to the chapter selection menus you created during authoring. For multiple chapter menus, you have to navigate to the double arrow icons to move forward or backwards. Here is where you can select your chapter thumbnail and press the enter(select) button on your remote to go to that point in the movie. Hope this is clear.
