  1. Does anyone know where I can find parts or a guide for my DVD player? I have a Sony DVP-S570D. I believe the laser went because it now says "no disc" for everything I put in it.

    Thanks ahead of time.

Whilst being a bit clueless on the details, I would warn about sending it to Sony themselves for repair. Their repair guys can't tell their ass from their elbow (nor the record from the playback head in a minidisc player.. several times over) so it would seem, certainly wouldn't trust them with a DVD player.
If it's no longer warrantied, see if the loader mechanism connects to the other circuit boards with a standard computer-style 40 pin IDE cable.. if so you might be able to replace the whole caboodle with the innards of a similar (sony?), cheap to obtain DVDROM drive.

Back after a long time away, mainly because I now need to start making up vidcapped DVDRs for work and I haven't a clue where to start any more!

  3. Thanks for the advice. I opened up the player and the drive is not connected with a PC type IDE cable. I also found out that a replacement laser would be $65 plus shipping. I could buy a new DVD player and a DVD to go with it for that price! I've decided to put it up on ebay, I've seen a lot of broken players on there. Hopefully I can get something for it, if not it's off to garbage town USA.

STUPID PIECE OF JUNK SONY!! I paid about $200 for it and it broke in a little over a year.

DVD Players, like VCR's are throw away items. Sorry, but that's the way they are made. Even if you paid (ripped off) $400 for yours. My Apex was $54, so if it breaks after the 1 year warranty, I'm not out anything (I have 2, so I'll have parts available, probably have 3 in another year). I've opend mine, and it's basically 1 board with a naked drive (no metal cover like in a PC).
