    I have a Toshiba SD-2800 Standalone DVD player which plays VCDs, XVCDs, and DVD-R/Ws. Before I bought a DVD+/-RW writer I experiment some with XVCDs. I found that my player would only play XVCDs with the VCD resolution of 352x240. I found that it could play with bit rates up to 5000 or 6000 kbps. Also, I used CBR (Constant Bit Rates). I found that 352x240 resolution with a CBR of 3000 kpbs produced a good quality video (XVCD) especially when compared to a VCD. At that bit rate I could get around 25-minutes per CD-R.

    Bitrate=Quality.......Resolution=Sharpness.

    What size file do you want to end up with....how many disc do u want to use?

    If you want high quality....you need more bitrate....But how much is enough...EXPERIMENT....can you tell the difference in a video bitrate of 900, 1000, or 1150 (in VCD).... Howbout 1600, 1700, and 1850 (in SVCD).
