  1. Well, finally I got it, I made a backup copy of my X-file Season 1 DVD 1.

    How I did?
    What to use:

    DVDmaestro
    CCE
    DVD2DVD-R
    Subrip
    ChapterXtractor

    here it is:
    1. Rip each episode separately.
    2. Demux and rencoded so The 4 episodes + menu would fit in 1 DVD
    3. Extract chapters for each episodes with Chapter Xtractor
    4. Extract subtitles for each episodes with Subrip.
    5. Use DVDMaestro to put the 4 m2v with French and English audio and French subs.
    6. Menus:
    What I tried after was to put it back with the orignial menu, BUT, DVDmaestro (the way I used it) Didn't gave me the same "output configuration" as the original DVD. I'll explain myself: The original DVD has VTS_01_0.vob -> VTS_01_XX.vob and it contains 4 PGC. DVDMaestro gave my 4 VTS (VTS_01_0. VOB, ...., VTS_04_0.VOB) with 1 PGC each. So I did a simple main menu, 4 "episode menu" with "play" and "chapter selection" and 4 "Chapter menu". Cause if searched and I don't think DVDMaestro can do Multiple PGC in 1 VTS.

    It is a very long but quite easy work after all. The most time consuming was for me to create a nice good looking menu.

    If any1 is interested, I will put every step detailed online soon.

  4. You have the RIGHT tools to do the JOB!

    I am currently doing Band of Brothers which has 2 PGC's on each of the 5 DVD-9's in NTSC with no sub titles.

    I used SthSVCD to play each DVD and capture the menus as .BMP files. I imported this menu into Maestro. I also captured the theme as .AC3 music which was 10 minutes long and reduced the size down to 1 minute for the menu.

    I decided to add a couple extra chapter points to skip the opening credits and other places in the movie.

    I configured DVD2DVD-R for VBR 3 passes (normally 1 pass is OK) but there are a lot of night shots with fast action. Using 1 pass caused a lots of blocks.

    I have completed 3 of the 5 DVD's so far. Each DVD has 2 PGC's with a playing time of about 55 - 115 mintues each. Using DVD2DVD-R I set the MB RESERVED space to about 2150 for each movie. This allowed me to get both PGC's on 1 DVD.

    DVD2DVD-R, CCE and MAESTRO ROCKS! 8)

  5. Maestro does support multiple PGC's as i've just used it to author the PAL version of Minority Report ( 2 PGC's in VTS01). You do it by creating Playlists.

    With the new version of IFOUpdate V0.55 you can select Maestro Multi PGC mode and under File, Save chapter files, you can now select it to output all the chapter information for Maestro multi PGC titles as well.

  6. Maestro is quite new for me, it is a wonderful tool but I haven't played with enough. I will first finish the guide like that then fool around with it to use multi PGC in VTS.

  7. what version of x-files did you rip was it PAL or NTSC, Because i have NTSC version, and half of each episode is in the following vob. so for example

    vts_01.vob = episode 1
    vts_02.vob = episode 1 and episode 2
    vts_03.vob = episode 2 and episode 3
    vts_04.vob = episode 3 and episode 4
    vts_05.vob = episode 4

    a detailed guide would be to have.

    The tutorial is Half way done. should be online tuesday evening

    I did the UK version (PAL) of the Royle Family Series 3 and this is exactly the same vob structure I saw.
    CladDVD, DVD2Avi and TMPGEnc Plus seems a lot simpler.
    I understand TMPGEnc has the facility to batch convert, but I don't know what this means.
    I've been creating episodes individually, does #batch convert' mean they will all be done at once, as all seperate mpeg files?

  13. @silky

    Thanks, when i checked i have the PAL version of X Files and when ripped with DvD Decryptor this is how the vobs came out when i played in ifoedit, but ripping just the pgc's in DvD2DvDr it sorts this out..

    My first attempt, when I ripped all files in one go, produced a series of epiosdes that had sound and video out of synch.
    The best news I ever had was rip each episode seperate!

    Thx man.

    @silly

    Try my guide, it is long because I tried to make it as complete as can be, but the time spent on your machine actually doing something is about an hour at most. it's the reencoding that takes long time but I Launch 1 rip beofre going to bed, one in the morning before going to work and the last when I come back from work or at noon if I get home for lunch. So everything is ready to author in the evening.

  17. Well it worked great until i discovered the subtitle problem.

    I asked in a new thread about it, but got no answer so i will try here too ; )

    The problem:

    In some of the episodes the subtitles works perfectly, no problems at all to use em in meastro (used subrip as u describes in ur guide).

    But im most episodes i get problems.

    I use subrip, and everything lookes ok, i have 500+ sub bmps in each folder (a folder for each episode).

    But when i imports the .son file in meastro i only gets 4-30 subs (should be around 500 of em). When i check each sub in maestro its clear that something really isnt rigth, it only takes the 4-30 last subs (sub00500 - sub00527 for example). And they are not in the correct time, far from it (they are in the begining instead of in the end).

    Im geting crazy over this, the .son files looks right as i said earlier:

    st_format 2
    Display_Start non_forced
    TV_Type PAL
    Tape_Type NON_DROP
    Pixel_Area (0 575)
    Directory C:\DVD_PROJECTS\Sub_Ep_2
    Contrast ( 15 0 15 15 )

    #
    # Palette entries:

    # 01 : RGB(131,127, 0)
    # 02 : RGB( 8, 0, 0)
    #

    SP_NUMBER START END FILE_NAME
    Color (0 1 2 3)
    Display_Area (000 000 719 573)
    0001 00:02:24:21 00:02:30:23 sub00001.bmp

    0003 00:02:38:22 00:02:45:22 sub00003.bmp

    0004 00:02:46:01 00:02:53:22 sub00004.bmp
    Display_Area (000 000 719 573)
    0005 00:02:54:01 00:02:59:08 sub00005.bmp

    0006 00:02:59:12 00:03:04:23 sub00006.bmp
    Display_Area (000 000 719 573)
    0007 00:03:05:02 00:03:10:23 sub00007.bmp

    and all the way down to sub00527

    Anyone able to help?
