What is the best method for doing backups of long movies?
Harry Potter and Lord Of the Rings for example.
I'd like to have a good,decent, viewable quality on the backup.
IfoEdit to split to 2 discs.
or
DVD2One
or
Instant Copy 7
or
??????????
Thoughts and comments from anyone who has tried it would help.
I figure I would rather wait the few days for feedback than waste that time (and discs!!) trying it out on my own. Thnkas in advance.
*BTW---None of that "Why don't you just buy the disc!!" negativity please!
My sister owns the discs, she wants a good backup so her kids don't trash the originals --OK

use cce for long movies or split onto two dvds. well thats what i would do. more likely to use cce then split though.

are we trying a dvd-r backup or to cd-r's??? if to cd-r's, svcd is the way to go, but the problem will be these 2 movies will take at least 3 cd's each to backup...you can go vcd which is ok quality and it will only take 2 cdrs each.

Actually, my question was geared toward backups to dvd-r.
Sorry if I did not make that clear before that was what I was after.
Anybody?? -

FWIW, getting SVCD(+) quality with long movies out of DVD2one is enough for me; I used it on both movies you mentioned and I was satisfied with the result....they weren't 'perfect' dupes, but they were definitely 'decent and viewable' on both a 36" telly and a 50" projection telly. Beats the crap outta VHS, anyway!! -
I use pinnacle instant copy 7. The results to my mind have been far from unacceptable. I have been backing up the full DVD with the additonal languages and extra video in tact. There has been some loss of Quality, but if you weren't looking for it you would not see it. It is real easy to do and takes a minimal amount of my time, Although overall it takes about 3 hrs start to finished DVD-R.
Hope this helps. -
@Conquest10
I looked in the kvcd site you mentioned. Looks like it will be a template to use with TMPGenc. Am I right, or did I miss something there? Have you used this method successfully for a long movie?
Looks like there will be alot of other programs I will need to use also to achieve my final discs. I have to admit, it looks kinda confusing. I have had real good luck making vcds via TMPGEnc before I went to dvd-rs though, so I might give it a go.
@ghoster & Airr
I had trouble with cce. I'd like to stay away from it. I tried and tried but never seemed to get the right settings or something. The video would turn out jerky and not that great of a quality.
I might give dvd2one a try though.
@Turtle49
What are the 'far from unacceptable results' you mentioned?
Am I reading this right that the results are actually acceptable or they are not acceptable at all?
Thanks to all for you input. -
