I have the DRU500AX and it will burn 100% fine with Memorex DVD-RW's as a test. But I'm only getting one in three successful burns with Supermedia DVD-Rs, rated at 2x.

I'm using Nero 5.5.10.15. Sometimes I get a fine copy of the vob's with this setup and then other times I get burn error and recieve an expensive coaster.

Anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Any helpful adivce? (I'm willing to buy all DVD-RW's if I have to, but that seems silly.

    Thanks,

    Billy

  3. please look at these two website's

    http://www.ebisschop.nl/dru-500a/

    http://sony.storagesupport.com/dvdrw/mediainfo_na.htm

I have had two DRU500AX and I have the same problem as you. Can not burn Memorex or Hpermedia that good. I have a Pioneer AO4 not had anyproblem's burning any media. I thought i fixed the problem when I got a new DRU500AX. It was burning fine with XP. I had a explorer error in windows and just want to go bck to windows 2000 after I went back could not burn crap. update nero fix the problem for a short time then could not burn crap. Went back to XP still nothing but coster's. I really do not like the DRU500AX at all

Thanks very much for the links, I appreciate the point in the right direction.

As an aside, the Nero update helped, I now have about a 50% coaster rate.

I don't know if this is just superstition, but it seems to go better when I burn a disk right after a reboot.

Am I crazy? I don't have any reason why this would help, but I'm willing to wear a shamrock behind one ear if I can throw away less of this expesive media.

  5. I don't have the 500ax but with my 500A I have never made a coaster in over 150 burns using RecordNow or RecordNow Max. My only problem with the Sony is that it decided to stop burning DVD-R at 4x after I updated to firmware version 1.0g.

Wow! So all the people who said "throw away the software that comes wit the drive" were full of it. Who knew? I thought Nero hung the moon on this stuff...

  7. huh....i used Lead Data dvd-r 1x disc and burn at 2x, use it to burned around 200 disc only few coster that was caused by my fault. i strongly recomand using recordnow MAX, and give up on nero, i used nero from the first version it came out, but their dvd video burning is just..crap...some disc i produce will not work on M.I.C dvd-players and some have other problems...so for now on i only use recordnow max. i used a full version not the bundle one. so i wouldn't know good is the bunlde version.

My problem appears to have been media related. The Supermedia DVD-Rs are poopie with the Sony DRU 500ax.

I ruined most of those then started on a batch of Accu (Sony?) and have burned ten in a row with no failures. Yeah!

With the Supermedia I got the error "unable to finalize disk" when burning in nero. DVD2One creates a file that's almost exactly the size of the disk. If there is a *little* over run, that might cause it to fail.

Anyway, I've learned my lesson. I'll stick to the media recomended by the users of this board.

Now then, anybody know the best media for the new blue-ray drives?

  9. I just bought the DRU-500AX about a month ago. I ordered a demo pack from http://www.blank-cd-cdr.com. The pack came with 12 DVD-R's, 2 of each from 6 different brands. So far, all of them work pretty well. I am pretty sure I'm doing good burning at 4x, so I may get the Ritek's from the same site.

    I hope this helps,

I've burned about 7 Supermedia DVDs with no problems. I've used different methods, including letting my authoring software do the work and also letting RecordNow MAX do it. RecordNow MAX is great, but I did make one coaster this way. I was trying to do other stuff while it ran, and that caused my last chapter to screw up. RecordNow MAX even warned me that the verification found that my source and targets did not match.

Otherwise, I've had no problems with the Supermedia DVDs so far.
