I need to replace the soundcard in my computer because it causes me to drop frames when capturing with sound. What cards will take the load completely off of the computer? Would a Hercules (I think thats what its called...it has a blue breakout box...) work? I like the looks of that card. Are there any cheaper ones that would take the load of the computer?

hello! i have a athlon 900, 256 ram, 40 gig 7200 hard drive. i am using ati tv wonder card for my capturing. the sound card i am using is an ati sound blaster pci 128. this card can be found at around 40-50 bucks. a frined of mine got it off the net for 28 bucks. another friend has the ati live card and let me tell you, if i had the cash thats what i would go for next. i am having no problems capturing. are you sure it's your sound card causing you to drop frames? what are your pc specs and capturing settings?

I have a PII 400mHZ, 256 MB RAM, 5400 10 GB HD, 7200 40 GB HD, Matrox G400-TV capturing using PIC VIDEO MJPEG at full size. I can capture without dropping a frame when not capturing sound. When I try to get sound it drops about 1 frame everyother second or so. I am pretty sure its because of the crappy soundcard I have. I'm not sure what it is, but it came with the computer. The card that I posted about beats out the LIVE! in the article I read. Its 50 bucks cheaper too.

i havn't looked to much around for sound cards so i might have to take a look at the one you have. anyway, i tried capturing with the mjpeg codec but i could never get it to work for me. but that might just be cause of my system. i switched to the huffy codec and i have no problems with it. have you tried it? if you have what in your opinion is the better codec for picture quality? if its better i might have to tweak my system some how to get it to work.

I don't think I can capture in Huffy, cause the lost time I tried I was dropping frames like crazy. But PIC VIDEO is excellent quality. I just can't get the sound to capture with out dropping frames...

well, good luck floppyrod. i'd just do some shopping around for cards and try them out. if you try a couple of them and they don't work either then i would rule out the card being the problem.
