  1. I'm working with a dvd-r I bought. There is a cartoon I want to copy. It is located in one of the VOBs but shares the VOB with other content. How can I extract just the cartoon out of the VOB and re-encode it into MPG2?

You could try using Chopper or Vobedit and cutting out the material before and after the cartoon, you'll be left with a .vob that just contains your cartoon file.

You can also rip the vob files, convert with DVD2AVI, encode to whatever you want. Then take it and just clip out the cartoon you are wanting using something like premiere, TMPEGenc, what ever.
