i'm not interested in spending the time ripping/converting the entire dvd. i want to be able to select my favorite scenes from a movie, and eventually end up with an mpeg file on my drive. has anyone else done this? what are the best software tools for my purposes? i've done an entire disc with cladDVD, and started compressing to divx with dvd2avi just for the learning experience.
i only have an amd 533 mhz processor with 120 mb ram.

I think the easiest way would be to follow Sefy's DVD2VCD guide:

    http://www.vcdhelp.com/DVDConversionGuidev1.3/dvdtovcd2.html#DVD2AVI

    then go to:

    Using - DVD2AVI v1.76 FrameServing into TMPGEnc 12j
and follow the direction for Step 2:
choose "Settings"; go to "Advanced", and check "Source Range".... double-click it, and just use the slider and "In" and "Out" point to select the scene you want to encode.
(The ripping and DVD2AVI process only takes about 15-20 minutes)
