I'm no expert but I don't think you can just do a DVD disk copy in Nero with PS2 DVDROM games. If it were that easy, 95% of all "How do I back up a PS2 DVD game guide?" would not even exist. I use a process that is almost just as easy using RecordNow Max 4.5. There may be even easier methods but you know how buring stuff is. Once you find a pretty fast and easy way to do something, you latch onto it because you've been successful and you feel comfortable with it.
Again, I could be wrong but I don't think any PS2 games are DVD9 (dual layered, more than 4.7G/4.3G)

Incase anyone is wondering.....you can burn DVDROM PS2 games by just copying disc in Nero or Record Now if you have a DVD burner....their is no encryption on any of the 15 titles I just backed up, this includes titles such as GTA 3 VC, US Navy Seals SOCOM, etc....
as for burning DVDROM games if you do not have a DVD-RW, you can burn them to CD....essentially you strip out the movies and animated scenes or I saw a guide that actually expained how to re-encode the animations using TMPGenc and put them back in. Most of the disc space taken up on PS2 DVD games is for the cinematics....if you remove them you can sometimes fit them on 1 cd...or in the case of a DVD9 game...you should be able to remove some of the cinematics and put it on 1 DVD or re-encode.
I will post the links in a bit...the site is being transfered at the moment.

okay let me set shit straight.. i'm a ps2 vetran (i think)..
to copy cd based ps2 games, nero & cdrwin work fine.. you can also do this through prassi/recordnow
to copy dvd based ps2 games, i've always heard using prassi/recordnowmax works great.. i've used it and never had a failure (aside from shitty media, use VERBATIM)
i've been able to burn cd based ps2 games at full speed (32x) with no problems at all, and i've been able to burn dvd based ps2 games at 2x (dvd-r) and at 2.4x (dvd+r)... 4x recordable dvd media is too pricey for me, and the "affordable" 4x media looks like its shitty, which i refuse to use after bad experiences with shitty media..
as far as reading cd games, i've always gone at max speed, dvd games are the same.. i use a liteon 163d dvd-rom (with region free firmware mod) too read with and i've never had a problem.. i use a sony dru500ax to burn with and a pioneer a05.. no problems..
gta vice city is a single layer game, it will fit on a dvd-r.. recordable dvd's show a capicity of 4.7gb, but the actual amount they hold is like 4.36gb (maybe a little more).. just check to see if the game is a single layer game by using dvd decrypter (in iso mode) to see if the game is single or dual layer.. i've backed up gta: vice city, works great..
you NEED a dvd burner to make a copy of a dvd, unless you want to spend hours ripping the game yourself.. but to me that is a total waste of time, unless you dont have a dvd burner.. tough shit..
you NEED a modchip, or some kind of swapping method.. (fliptop lid & swap magic is what i use.. easy to install and it works great)..
xenosaga is the only USA dvd9 game released for the ps2.. ther are like 2 or 3 JAP games that are dvd9.. kalisto has released a dvd9 => dvd5 rip version of xenosaga that works with modchips, but not with the fliptop/swapmagic method, because swap magic cant handle rips with p/n selectors and intro's.. works with modchips though.. if you have a v6 and below ps2, you can use a gameshark to play it with swapping.. v7 & v8 users will need to purchase the new gameshark v3.0 that will let you play kal's xenosaga release and other problematic games (very few), and maybe even rips..
and **** THE XBOX.. it was a machine designed by nerds so they can watch the uninteractive intros.. you can build a machien that is 600 times faster than the ps2, but if it isnt fun to play and the games SUCK ASS (which the vast majority of xbox games do) then you'll be sorry..
i'll buy an xbox, when the xbox 2 comes out.. then i'll slap a modchip in it and put a big harddrive in it so i can use it as a home entertainment system component (dvd, divx, xvid, wmv, mp3, etc..) and as an emulator for stuff.. thats the only reason i would want an xbox.. so i'll wait til the new one comes out and get it for cheap.. for now though, **** THE XBOX.
i hope this clears up most of the questions.. if there are any others.. lemmie know..

"yeah... have fun soddering in the mod chip... I wouldn't try...lol. Maybe they will come up with a boot disk or a plug in external mod chip like for the playstation 1. I burned the crap out of those ps 1 games, haha. "
Stupid Pirater.....
You bastards you should buy your games

Let us analyze what he said:
I burned the crap out of those ps 1 games, haha.
Furthurmore you detailed a LOT about making Ps2 Copies... That isn't any new to me as I already know this mainly because I'm on irc getting Fansubs (Unliscened anime only in Japan where people translate and add subtitles so we may watch) and I hear so much from kids who say, " I just rented [insert game here] can anyone tell me how to copy it before I have to return it!!!!!!!"
But you have shown YOURSELF that it is a hassle to setup and make a copy of a Ps2 game and play it. You sit there outlining what kinds of modchips do what, where the gameshark is necessary among other things. You are trying to tell me that you go through all this to play a game you legally bought Hahahaha. Ha.
and **** THE XBOX.. it was a machine designed by nerds so they can watch the uninteractive intros.. you can build a machien that is 600 times faster than the ps2, but if it isnt fun to play and the games SUCK ASS (which the vast majority of xbox games do) then you'll be sorry..

You are trying to talk about "retardedness" that you see, yet you are here cursing at some metal and plastic?
You are the one who seems like the child for running out and immediately assuming I am one. Go cuss all you want because I know there are 12 year olds running around the site looking for ways to illegaly make copies of games.
Oh, and for saying that I'm sorry - I'll edit it.
But your logic amuses me at best
"Just because I have drugs hidden in my backpack and I have the side effects of using drugs doesn't mean I use drugs because you never saw me light that joint!"
EDIT:
So I decided to dig through your post history to see what you post about...and Lo and Behold I found this on the first page
As far as gamefly.com goes...
I currently have 46 games on my list and only 3 are on short wait. Short wait isn't usually that long. By the time I recieve and backup, I mean play, the games those will probably ready.
Look at it this way, you would only be able to rent 3 games from blockbuster or hollywood video at $7 a game, right? That $21. You'll rent over 10-12 games in a month from GameFly if you back them up and send the right out again.
Now why would you rent a game, back them up and send the right out again ! That means you made a copy of a game you do not legally own! That is called piracy my friend.
Now let us see your reply. If you are true to what you say ie:
you idiots are always make assumptions as to people being pirates
then I am an idiot making the "assumption" that you are a pirate
Your reply
sounds good. i'm almost convinced.. i emailed them this question though, maybe you can shed some light on it;
I don't assume...I know.
-
dont start playing the holier than thou bullshit with me.
you are still making assumptions. it may look like people are trying to commit piracy, but dvdrhelp (vcdhelp) does not endorse it.
just because i have a crowbar doesnt mean i'm going to break in to houses.. its all what you do with the information and knowledge you have. you can choose to use it correctly or incorrectly.
you're still making assumptions.
you dont have any evidence that i am commiting piracy. what if i'm just backing up the games so i dont scratch up blockbusters/gameflys originals and have to worry about them getting damaged and then destroying my backups?
YOU DONT KNOW, so dont make assumptions.
you seem to have gotten your panties quite in a bunch over this..
searching my old posts to try and dig up dirt, eh? i'm not going to waste my time with a moron like you and dig up your old posts. because frankly, your accusations of piracy mean shit to me. providing people with the best methods and help on backing up (its called "copying" too) means more to me that the idiocy you're breeding.
so go ahead and call me a pirate a million times over, it doesnt mean shit to me. notify the fbi, i dont care.
let me sum this up in 2 words for you... <EDIT>
i hope there isnt a missunderstanding.. let me reitterate.. <EDIT>
got that? how about one more time? <EDIT>
hopefully that has sunk in.. if it hasnt and you reply, i'll give you a little more of the same.. and i'm sure you'll be like "who's the moron now? all you can say is <EDIT> you and deny that you pirate"... well there are more <EDIT> to come..
