  1. sorry... a newbie here plus got a very crappy computer compared to most of the ppl in here so i can't really test it out. i have a P3 700... and i tried encoding a two hour dvd movie using tmpg 2pass VBR svcd and the estimated time after encoding for about an hour was over 30 hours left. So maybe i will try just making a xvcd instead... 1) is there a difference in encoding times between svcd and xvcd? 2) will CBR or 2pass VBR be faster for xvcd? 3) i tried the bitrate calc on this site for xvcd... it gave me one value... avg br to be 1581 kbps. for CBR setup, its pretty much self-explantory. but how do i set up tmpg for 2pass VBR?

btw... i'm gonna be watching this on a pioneer 343/503 standalone... thanx for the help

    1. no
    2. VBR 2pass takes double as long as CBR (TMPG)
    3. for VBR 2pass set average bitrate to 1581, min + max is your own choise and does not affect the calculation.

Wait a minute, I've been partly wrong.
The encoding time depends on the resolution of course.
A conversion to 480x480 takes longer than a conversion to 352x240. If you use TMPG, probably 2,7 times as long (each pass!)
