I finally got the registered version of TMPGenc and started to make a few CVD's and had to post my appreciation.
For the bucks, TMPGenc is AWESOME! I screwed up some discs learning what settings to use, but now I am getting very very pleasing results even at 2x zoom.
Oddly, editing with TMPGenc sometimes adds sound sync issues that did not exist before editing. Oh well.
I for one am a satisfied customer and will never go back to plain MPG1 or VCD's. Thanks so much for this great ap!!!

The next step is to learn how to use filters. The Built in of TMPGenc or externals like those used in Vdub (and avisynt).
With the combination of virtualdub/tmpgenc, you can succeed really miracles! DVD2avi and bbmpeg are also very helpfull!
