Does the fact that a cap was done in CBR (as opposed to using VBR) make it increase Hugely in file size when authored and burned with those programs?

Is there any reason why my raw(unedited) 3.8Gig CBR caps show in those programs that they would be 4.8 Gigs if authored....and my raw 3.8Gig VBR caps(with identical resolution and audio settings) would only increase slightly to 3.85Gig?

Why would CBR make such a Huge difference in end file size using those programs?

This doesn't make sense to me.

Has anybody else found this to be true for CBR caps?

There is nothing apparently wrong with the caps. Several programs handle MPEG-2 files in peculiar ways. DVDIt is an example (I have tried), that accepts to author low bitrate captures IT has done but once you import an MPEG-2 stream, it inflates it (punishing you for not capturing with it) into a very high bitrate stream. Rubbish.

Of all the authoring applications I have seen, the simplest and most sane one is ULEAD DVD Workshop. Comes with 30 days free evaluation and is fully functional. It will not re-encode both video and audio (if you check the relevant check-box) and allows also simple menus. Of course there are other equivalent apps, but haven't tried them.
The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.

Thank you for answering SaSi, but I guess I wasn't being clear.

I have used those programs with Many VBR caps, and Not had it add size to the authored file. But those programs want to make all my CBR caps about a Gig larger, just to author them(again, these are very compliant, raw Mpeg-2 captures with Zero editing, or anything). That seems so odd.

Why is CBR treated so differently?

I always chose the option to not re-encode Mpeg compliant files. Do those programs not thing CBR is Mpeg compliant?

    As anybody else noticed this?
