  1. I have an avi that is in pal 25fps. I was trying to convert it to ntsc mpeg2 standard using tmpgenc. I extracted the video and sound into separate files using virtualdub. I used tmpgenc and loaded the video and audio files and applied the ntsc dvd template. After a couple of hours tmpgenc had finished. When I played the resulting mpeg2 file, the sound and video was out of sync. I tried demuxing the m2v and mp2 files and letting the authorware remux them but the sound was still out of sync. Any ideas how to correct this? I am currently in the process of using ulead dvd workshop v2.0 and having it do the conversion for me. I don't know how the quality or the format of the movie will turn out.

You need to convert the audio from PAL to FILM. Use the BeSweet GUI, and BeSweet (find them both in the TOOLS section). There's an easy drop down selection to do just that.

  3. When I do that will the sound play okay after it is burned? I tried that and then authored it and when I previewed it in the authoring program just before burning, the sound was speeded up and sounded like the chipmunks.

Make sure you select the PAL to FILM option (25 fps to 23fps).

  5. I see the error of my ways. I had mistakenly selected pal to video 25->29 instead. That would make a difference. Thanks for the info. I also misspoke. I am using ulead dvd moviefactory 2.0 not dvd workshop. It is at 77% so I am going to let it finish just to see what the quality of its encoder is. I don't know what encoder it uses. Thanks again for the help. I don't know why I selected the video instead of film framerate.

The Chipmunk Blues are a common side affect. Speeding up your audio from 25 to 29.97 fps will either give you bad sounding audio, or very fast talkers 8)
