  1. Hi all,

Is there anyway to convert DVD ---> DivX (ideally) or (S)VCD without "doing" the whole DVD i.e. a chapter or a time-range?

    Thanks in advance.

    Laters.

  2. My guess would be to use DVD Decryptor and only select what the chapter you want.

Use Smart-Ripper and select a chapter to rip.

use dvdtosvcd , set to internal routines for dvd rip and you can rip and convert to svcd which chaptor(s)you want.
or you could set the sorce range on tmpg to convert any section you want.

You can also use FlaskMPEG, XMpeg for the same thing. Save the encoded part using DivX and you're done.

If you want more control over the range you are going to encode, e.g. select a specific chapter, use SmartRipper, enable stream processing, select the chapter(s) you want, select the option to save each chapter to a separate file and rip the DVD. You will have separate VOBs for each chapter and you can convert them individually.
The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.

I have the same doubt: How to encode just a time-range with FlaskMPEG.
Flask only gives me two choices, "compile the whole movie" or
"compile X sec/frames from the begining...

FlaskMPEG v.0.60 has this capability. You use the slide-bar to select a beginning and an end to the video and press start and end buttons. They are not very clearly marked, though, just an |_ and _| on the buttons.

If you are in doubt, use VirtualDUB modified for MPEG/VOB. It's much better and faster.

Yes, I prefer VirtualDub too, but I tried the modification you cite
and it doesn't work: after opening a VOB file, VirtualDub only
shows me 7 or so non-consecutive frames out of the whole file.

Maybe my OS needs a reinstallation...
