I'm using 2 different brands of discs (Princo & ACCU, both 1x) and it seems each time I do a movie to DVD that takes most of the disc (200MB left) I get severe pixelation and blockiness near the end of the movie, even to the point of locking up. I've used both Nero (SpruceUp to author) and MyDVD (both author and burn) to burn the disc, and I've tried both a Pioneer DV 250 and an Apex 3201 ... so it seems to me it's either that the media is bad towards the end of the disc (which is not as likely since I'm using 2 different brands) or the encoding went wacky at that point. Since I deleted the original avi I'm doing a new capture (Virtualdub) and encode (TMPGEnc) ... and burn at less then 4GB to check it out ..... am I on the wrong track and, .... does anyone else have similar experiences?

  3. I bought 15 Verbatim from BestBuy and all of them were bad near the end of the disc so I just used them for files under 3.9GB and that worked just fine.

  5. Gritz, I use both Accu and DVDpro (princo) and I do not have any problems that you describe. I get perfect playback throughout the entire movie. I also fill the disc totally full because I use DVD2one that shrinks to 4.36 (full disc). I use Nero 5.5.9 to burn. I'm sorry to say that I have no idea where your problem would be.

    Bob W,
I think you're right .... it seems like a logical explanation, although I wonder why the media would be different near the outer edge. Perhaps, the writting speed would be different and more critical at that point. I'm going to try what you suggested and I'll come back with the results.

  7. Didn't you read my post Gritz? My movies at 4.36GB played perfect throughout on Accu and DVDpro (princo). So obviously the outer rim on this media is fine. Unless you got 2 bad batches of discs.

Yep, with two Verbatim disks. Wound up tossing several files onto another dvd disk to fix the issue. Had the same thing happen with cheapo blank cd's. I figure it's gotta be the media that's causing this.

I had the same problem with cheap media, now I use TDK only. I haven't burnt one bad disk since I started using it. Don't waste your time with inferior products, remember you get what you pay for.
