I posted earlier asking if there was anyway to upgrade (firware) the 703 to make it HDCD compatible (as the 5131 is). I haven't really received a good answer.
I was wondering if you can hack the 5131 just like the 703 for macrovision and regions ?? Any one know ?? Please reply here and/or email me.
Thanks.... I'm considering taking the 703 back and getting the 5131 (that's why I'm asking).

I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for a 5131 hack. The firmware chip on the 5131 is soldered to the circuit board, which makes it VERY difficult to hack the unit. (If the chip was in a socket, then the process of extracting the firmware would be much easier.) Unless there is great interest in this player -- which I doubt there will be -- the firmware will likely never be dumped.
As far as the 703 is concerned, there is no known way to make it HDCD compatible. The company which makes the 703 doesn't make any HDCD compatible players as far as I know. (The 5131 is made by a different company than the 703.) -
Ilc,
Thanks for the info. I've heard the same from other folks. I appreciate the quick response. I'll probably take the 703 back and get another one though. I burned some VCD's yesterday, and it didn't really like them, sometimes they worked and sometimes they didn't. I have 2 more days to take it back to SAMS before the 90 days runs out.
Thanks again
