I still have not purchased a DVD recorder. I have noticed that most people on this forum don't talk about the other DVD recorders. Panasonic must be the best at this time. The Toshiba looks really nice, but you have to take out a loan just to buy it. The Philips seems like it would be cool b/c you can make your own chapters, but people have mentioned that it does not do to well with old VHS recordings that fade out for a brief second due to a degrading tape. The Pioneer seems ok, but it too cost way too much. However, I have seen no one talk about the Samsung which can purchased for as low as $450. I read one review where it is pretty much the same as the Panasonic E30, only it cost $1000. I guess the Samsung must have been drastically reduced since then since most places are selling it for no more $550.

This is a picture of the SAMSUNG DVD-R3000

  2. I think it has simmilar funtions to the panasonic dmr-e30.

However I could not find any reviews of anyone who actually bought one.

I noticed samsung does not have dolby digital support, or DTS support.,

My opinion is why risk trying it when you know a particular model is what most people recommend and use.

Especially when there is no savings involved.

However I am biased owning the panasonic unit myself.

Point taken. It's just a mystery b/c it's not like Samsung is an unknown brand. You would think someone would own one being that it's from a well known electronics company.

  4. Panasonic makes the samsung dvd recorder. It has a dmr-e20 body with progress scan.

  5. Trust me, you want either the Panasonic or Pioneer. Pansonic makes the drive for the Toshiba. It's all a scam out there. Wait until the Summer when the next generation dvd recorders come out. Pioneer is coming out w/ a hard drive version dvd-r &-rw. Pioneer recorders have always had a better picture than the Panasonic recorders (panasonic makes their own encoder chips and Pioneer gets theirs from some popular company whose name I forget) Panasonic will also be coming out w/ a new hard drive version in a few months, I believe it's called the E80H and E100H, supposidly they have a switch for the IRE (control the black bug problem) I'm holding out for a Pioneer ($799 street price, I believe) Good luck
