  1. I have several brand-new Apex AD-1500s, unopened, in their original boxes. This player is going for up to $99 on eBay, often with absurd additional shipping charges. As readers here probably know, this unit can be firmware upgraded (I'll do it if you like) to remove Macrovision, region coding, and ALL forms of copy protection (all of my players have serials beginning with A, B, C, or D). This deck is perfect for:

    - backing up your valuable dvd collection (to either VHS tape or dvd)
    - playing dvds purchased in Europe, Asia, or ANY country outside of Region 1
    - playing discs which won't play in typical dvd players

It also plays mp3 cds, regular audio cds, and has the standard Dolby Digital and DTS audio output capabilities you'd want. If you're interested you can buy a unit new and unopened or upgraded and tested by me (no extra charge).

I will ship within the US for a reasonable amount (usually between $10 and $15 depending on where you live). Any and all questions answered (and encouraged). If interested please e-mail me at apex_1500@yahoo.com. Thanks.

(BTW, can you find this machine cheaper elsewhere? Yes, though you won't know if it's firmware flashable and it won't have been tested for you. In other words, you could be stuck.)

So are some versions of this DVD player unflashable then? I don't think APEX are going to make some of them flashable and some of them not are they!

  3. Of course they do, many manufacturers have done just that in the middle of a given model's production. Apex has done it with several models, as most readers are no doubt aware.
