  1. I tried to search this forum through, but I didn't find the answer to my problem. I'm learning to use Workshop, for now it is only trial version, and I was wondering, what kinda chapter making options it has?
example: i have a 40 minute mpeg or mpeg2 and I wanna make chapters for example after every 5 minutes, or something like that. chapters anyway. i managed to make chapters, but is it possible to make true chapter menu? (motion or still menu, preferably motion of course ) like with TSCV. i tried, but i didn't seem to work it out.. and if it is possible, a little tutorial would nice or a little help.

    thanks!!!

Yes, you can motion titles in dvd workshop.

You have to make sure u turn on motion backgrounds or motion buttons
in the MENU page. Then u click on the actual button you want, and choose motion there are well.

So u can have a motion background, AND motion buttons.

it's all detailed in the pdf file that comes with the software.

BTW, I think the motion menu/button features are only enabled when you're creating a DVD project.

  4. okey, but can i do true chapters with it?
you know, like dvd-movies have. hmm.. don't know how to explain it more specific, in english at least.. i hope someone understands what i'm trying to solve here

it's easy to make menu with many movie files, like musicvideo collection. but if i wanna make chapter menu (motion or still, doesn't matter), can i make it with DVD Workshop? can i chapter one movie file and make a menu.. (like with the infamous TSCV...)

    thanks :P

I'm sorry for the bad info, i 'assumed' you were creating a DVD.

I only make DVD's with DVD WORKSHOP. You cnatm ake true chapters
with the product, on a VCD or SVCD....ONLY DVD

Or you could go and read the guide I just wrote about DVD Workshop's Static and Motion menus. It only creates motion menus for DVD, but I show you how to extract the motion menu and use it in your own project. The motion menu can be previewed in DWS. It creates a temporary MPEG file that you can copy to your own folder, then encode in TMPGENC to a VCD compliant file. It's a lot nicer than TSCV.

  9. Not sure about DVD Movie Factory, but I have been using DVD Workshop for about 2 months now and have found it to be a great program. It's very stable and easy to use. I only make DVD's so I use the Motion Menu and Backgraound features it enables you to do (Which DVDit doesn't have). I have had a 100% burn success rate using it, I thought less as I wasn't able to play it on my RCA RC5215P player but it would on everything else. I recently discovered that the RC5215P player won't play DVD-R disks or eally anything else except for true CD's and DVD media only. So I have come to the conclusion that this is an excellent program after all and I would highly reccommend it to anyone looking for a mid range priced authoring program.

I too like DVD Workshop, though I only use it for VCD/SVCD stuff. I don't have a DVD burner (yet )

I've tried a couple of other packages (Maestro, Scenearist, DVDIt PE, etc.), and for my needs right now (and I have many when it comes to playing with menus and stuff like that) I like DWS a lot.

Biggest problem I have with it is it doesn't do motion menus/buttons for anything other than DVD, and it doesn't do chapter navigation properly (assumes people will only navigate to a point from a menu, and not Prev/Next while movie is playing).

The other alternative is Roxio's VideoPack 5. I tried it briefly, and to be fair I didn't spend a lot of time with it. VP5 didn't let me hit the ground running like DWS did, but others on this forum swear by it. For starters it does motion menus for VCD, and I'm pretty sure it will do the chaptering too. I didn't like it's menu building features though.

So, between those two, you should be able to do pretty much anything you'd want to...

Roxio bought out CEQUADRAT and have a product called VideoPack5 (which is quite similar to WinOnCD product from them).

MGI has a product called VideoWave.
