  1. I have just bought the panasonic dvd recorder with a 40gig hard drive and
I also have a dvd player in line with it, my question is how do I play a dvd on the player and record it to the recorder so I may backup some of my dvd's that I have, I would think there would be some kind of hardware you can put inline between the two units to be able to do this, but I dont know if they have or what it is called or where to find it on the net.
    any help would be appreciated.

  2. You can do this if your DVD player that you will be putting the original DVD in has no macrovision, region protection, etc. I've seen sites where you can have a chip installed inside your dvd player that takes all these restrictions away so you can copy 1:1 onto your Panasonic recorder. But I'm not sure if it could be done without the in-line player being hardware modified. Good luck

quickrej66, it won't work with your Pan too. I have the DMR-E30 and I also talked to Sima's tech support. There is a video filter which might work. I'm also looking at macrovision, copyguard and region free dvd players, like cyberhome or sampo, that might do the trick.

  8. thanks blazer for the info, I just talked to a guy online that sells dvd players which he will put a chip in so that you can play on that one and record on the panasonic, he wants $300 for the dvd player with the chip,
but I hate buying another dvd player when I allready have 2. would like to find a cheaper way out. he also told me the sima dosent work, he said he had one in his store.

You don't say what PLAYER you have?
How can we help you..except to recommend these "MAYBE WILL WORK" standalone units...
    Instead look up your player
    www.nerd-out.com

    Go to the APEX-HITEK pages..
They can supply you with a MACROVISION workaround

  15. blazer, I dont know how new this dvd player is, here is the site where I got it from.

    http://www.world-import.com/dvd.htm

I bought it and it was deliverd today, I will have it up and running over the weekend and will let you know if it works. the place where I bought it from had a tech guy that told me it would work, because he has the same player in line with his DMR-HS2, so he has the same setup that I have and he said it works fine, he can copy anything from this country.

I would like to thank all the people who have responded to my post.

  17. Blazer, it works great, very easy just put a dvd in it and play it and record on DMR-HS2 with no problem. Like the guy told me this will play
anything made in this country and he was right.
I would have to say this is the best way to go, because it is a great
dvd player, which will also play all formats and gets rid of the stuff you dont want. very easy copy tool.
and I would also highly recomend the DMR-HS2 recorder, its like having tivo for free. if you need anything else blazer let me know.
the service where I bought the RV-32 was great, had it in 3 days.
