  1. I just found a good deal on this DVDR, is it worth the cash? It's only around $175... just wondering. It's a 4X and this will be my first drive. POS?

  2. Yeah It's not bad. I got it a month ago and haven't had any problems burning anything with it yet.

It is a great drive. It is actually the Pioneer A05 sold as an OEM by Cendyne. I have had mine for about 2.5 months and it has never made a coaster. Just make sure you apply the update to Nero before trying to burn movies. The version of Nero that came with the Cendyne would not correctly burn DVD movies. They played in the burner, but not in standalones. After the Nero upgrade, it plays in every standalone I have tried including my PS2.

  5. you'll never burn at 4x!!!
    why waste your money?
i got the dvr-104, the model below that one for $99, in same cendyne package.
it only burns at 1x, they all do so don't waste ya money, there is no actual advantage from getting the a05 version that i can see except maybe 16x read.

Yes, it is 5.5.10.7b. I have seen some people talk about using the UDF/ISO or UDF modes but I use the DVD Video mode and it works great.

What are you talking about??? I only burn at 4x unless its an -RW. You can get good 4x media for $1.77 each from ESbuy.com That's where I get mine. And the only coaster I had was my fault. Everything else burns and plays great. Don't listen to to Dumb ninja.

  10. I've applied the latest firmware and whichever app I use I can never burn past 1x. If I tell the app to burn at max speed it just gets knoecked down to 1x. My media is 2x capable but wether it be nero, dvd x copy, instant copy, or dvd dcrypter none of them can burn past 1x.

I've tried latest firmware, other media and aspi layer. I've gone over to 2 of my buddies, one has a sony dvd burner, latest model and other buddy has a pioneer a05 and both of them can't burn at 4x either.

The say the limitation os the hardware, stating you just have to wait for the firmware to come out that enables 4x copy. So in total me and 2 other friends can't burn past 1x. and we all applied latest firmware and have 2x and 4x media.

I bought my A05 (in the Cendyne packaging) at the end of december. I have winxp pro, I use the latest version of nero as my burning app, and the media I use is 4x ESbuy.com purple tops and bottoms. I have never been UNABLE to burn at 4x. When I test burn to -RW obviously that's 1x but from the day I installed the drive I have had absolutely no problems burning at 4x speeds. The whole DVD is done in 12-15 minutes. I haven't upgraded to the 1.21 firmware so maybe that's your issue. Otherwise I wouldn't know how to help you. But for anyone on the fence, the 105 is a great drive and an even greater deal. I would absolutely recommend with no hesitations.

  12. okay, i did some investigation and this is what I found out. I was buying my media at www.shop4tech.com, a spindle sold for $69 and was labeled 2x friendly...upon further digging I find that the media is actually only 1x even though they have been selling it as 2x.
So i won't be buying there anymore, it turns out the reaon I could not burn at 2x is because of media.
    thank you all.
