I am currently using the following process to convert captured satellite videos to DVD.

1 - Capture from Satellite using a Canopus ADVC-100/DV Raptor card.
2 - Convert DV to MPGII using CCE (VBR 2 pass)
3 - Convert DV sound to WAV then to AC3 using Soft Encode.
4 - Author DVD using Infoedit.
5 - Burn DVD using Nero

Is there an easy and quick way to add chapters to video. I have tried a couple of authoring programs and they seem a bit slow.

    Any help would be appreciated.

  2. I've read a message here I think in the last 24 hours or so that chapters can be added using a text file using Ifoedit. Have a look, maybe you'll find the message.

Ive just re-authored the 'Fried Green Tomatoes' dvd using Ifoedit 0.95, I had to create the chapter points due to this movies 'unique' PGC structure. Anyway, create a notepad file called 'Celltimes.txt', then list your chapter points in frames. I made my chapter points every 5 mins (PAL 25 fps) so my list was like this

    7500
    15000
    22500
    30000
.................and so on. Enter this file when authoring with Ifoedit which should give you some chapters

<diligaf> So chapter points can be created randomly? Would this work then? Take total number of frames and say divide them by 20-28 chapter points? Sincere appreciation. Interesting was working on a setup there in Melbourne last night midnight my time (from US-Midwest) remotely.

Yes this method worked well for me, If I had wanted to take more time I could have viewed the movie (124 mins) in a media player taking note of the scene changes in mins, then convert these to frames.

  6. I tried this and didn't work for me. I'm just curious, how would one know the total amount of frames in an m2v file?

  7. It just hit me but a confirmation would be great.

So if my movie is NTSC that's 29.97 FPS, for a 144 Minute movie that would be 144 x 60 x 29.97 then? And if I want chapters every 10 minutes, I can just do the following:

    (29.97 Seconds X 60 Seconds X 10 Minutes) = 17982

    17982
    35964
    53946

    etc etc etc...

  8. I was pretty sure that chapter entry points could only be certain types of frames. Sorry, but I can't remember what. That was supposed to be the reason ULead WS was slow in being able to assign them. Love to be wrong though. Being able to just create a text file would be nice.
