OK, looks like I've got my layout pretty well planned. I have a nice,
inexpensive Compaq laptop with a 1 Ghz PIII and 384 megs of memory which also has a firewire port (and an internal CD-RW/DVD-ROM drive). I'll hook a Canopus ADVC-100, LaCie DVD-R/W U&I (using the Pioneer 4x drive), and a LaCie Big Drive to the Firewire port. Since I can't imagine capturing to the HD and writing a DVD at the same time, I'll assume that I'll never be using more than two of those items at once.
So the final question comes to the LaCie Big Drive (info at http://www.lacie.com/products/product.htm?id=10065&CFID=56793&CFTOKEN=50425172). They have two models. I'm thinking that I should go with the 400 Gig model which is rated at 7200 RPM and has an 8 MB buffer. But I'm wondering if I should get more capacity and get the 500 Gig model rated at 5400 RPM and with a 2 MB buffer?
Any thoughts/suggestions?
Thanks in advance,
Ewan

If your going to be capturing go with the 7200. actually i would always go with the 7200 drive over the 5400.
