  1. firstly i would like to ask wether it is right to assume that divx would have a smaller size that the vcd or mpeg1 format? therefore if someone who wanted to safe space in the hardisk it would be normal to convert the mpeg 1 file to divx right?
but i have been looking everywhere for the program and directions on how to achieve that. but have not found it anywhere?
is it impossible to do that? or is there other reasons why it doesnt convert from vcd to divx?
if i cant do that is there another software that could convert the mpeg to real player or quicktime because as i understand it. it is also very small in size therefore would be suitable for me

please if anyone have any suggestion reply :P

well you can do it but then each time you convert you lose video quality. if you want to save space on your hard drive burn the mpegs to a cd, and then put it in your computer when you want to see it. Be for real how many times are you gonna watch the same movie? now to answer you question yes you can convert to divx rm or whatever. open mpg in virtual dub and save as avi with divx compression.

maybe you didnot compress your audio? If you want the smallest movie posssible open the file in windows movie maker and save it as wmv.

  5. hi secretagent
well firstly on the audio conversion maybe i am just plain dumb but after opening video file and setting the video compression i go to audio and the option for compression is not highlighted or unusable for some reason.
and secondly with the windows movie maker i cant import the video cd file so i get it converted to mpeg file and then import it but everytime in the middle of import it just plainly crashed
i am using windows movie maker two so there might be some bug or something i am not sure
    any suggestions

when you go to audio in vdub check full processing mode then go back to audio again and you will get your compression choices
