I am glad I rebuilt my machine never had so many problems with such a piece of crap oh yes one other piece of crap Direct X 9, glad a found a buster to return to Direct X 8a on that one.

After my experiences with the betas at my "experimental" computer (the one I use at work - There are things I'd never do to my own box!
) I'm not very likely to "upgrade". I'd rather remove it altogether, as I use other apps for my audio/video consumption. WMP is as usual Bloatware Extreme.

I did not like it hijacking my context menus...and I'm not keen on MS installing DRM on my machine, but once I tracked down those freakin' context menu registry entries I've grown to like it. At least wmp9 has a usable (yet still less than the competition) playlist.

What a turd.
Actually my captures are much better since I went back to 8.
And frankly, I wouldn't even use 8
except for the fact that my software requires the damn thing.
XP sucks the big one, IMHO.
I'm sure it works for someone out
there.
But jeez, What a bloated pig.
I went back to 2000. -
If you turn off all the 'eye candy' that comes turned on by default, it is virtually win2000 anyway. I have a network of win2000 machines at work and 3 XP machines at home (all set to mimic win2000) and I see no difference in speed/memory usage to speak of. XP is definately better for everyday tasks...much more streamlined and well thought-out.

I only wish XP wouldn't crash so many programmes!
And don't install any version of Win Media Player above 6.4! -
I agree with ENERGY 80s
Don't install abouve 6.4 if you can play everything with 6.4
I don't think so, but I install 8 or 9 and go to the TOOLS>OPTIONS>FORMATS tab and uncheck all formats..Then YOU CAN PLAY EVERYTHING in this great lightweight player
This file assoc reassignment sometimes has severe repercusssions (you can't play AUDIO CD's for example)...but If all goes well, you can replace 9's file associatios with associations to the MEDIA PLAYER 6.4 also known as MEDIA PLAYER 2 the program that LIVES on your system right now without a proper shortcut..
ITS alongside the bloated 7,8, or Madia Player 9in yer ProgramFiles folder .Its better than that Redmond giganto bloatware MEDIA PLAYER playlist nightmare WMA forcing junkbox that MICROSFT demands you use.
BOO to David Byrne and Beck for supporting and getting paid by the GATES for HIGH FALUTIN lo fi garbage.
if u-needa playlist USE WINAMP pre-AOL(2.6 or less)..nuff said -
All you need is ZoomPlayer
It is the end-all be-all best media player in existence. The only reason I have ANY version of WMP on my machine at all is because I use it to test stuff and occaisionally use it for .asx links.

I think that XP Pro installs WMP8 by default, so I had no choice in that. I really dont know why I upgraded to 9, just a moment of stupidity, and what makes it worse, I didnt use it for ages, so by then it was too late to do the system restore thing
.
I agree about mplayer2 (or 6.4), but unfortunately since the WMP9 install that wont play anythiing more than WMP9 either!
Hard drive too bigreinstallation is the last option for me, but its looking more and more tempting
.
