    is there a freeware out there that can convert wav files to mp3 files? i know NTI Cd-maker can do this but i just want a freeware.

    LAME is probably the best quality MP3 encoder out, freeware or commercial.

    It is open source freeware. Just do a search for it in google and you'll find somewhere to download it. The latest version that I saw was 3.89.

    LAME also works fantastically with a number of CD ripper/extractors (e.g. Easy CD Extractor).

    Another goof program is CDEX It uses the lame encoders and its very easy to use.
