  1. I have tried decoding using the 'DVD selection in 42 but have had no successes.

    First a little background information: I have a PowerMac G3 MT with a 500 G$ upgrade card. I am running OS X 10.2.4 with a Pioneer DVR105.

I run forty-two and drag the DVD to the little window. I click on the 'DVD' button. Since the DVD I am trying to decode is larger then the 4.7gig DVD-R I want to burn it to, I am trying to adjust the quality to get it to fit. I tried two things:

    1) I checked 'VBR' and left the quality at '3', the default setting.

I then hit Start. Forty-two does its thing and I get the following files created:

    -rw-r--r-- 1 benricke unknown 1464000 Feb 19 08:18 DVD_VIDEO.mpg.ac3
    -rw-r--r-- 1 benricke unknown 1069 Feb 19 07:04 DVD_VIDEO.mpg.idx
    -rw-r--r-- 1 benricke unknown 51200 Feb 19 07:04 DVD_VIDEO.mpg.sub
    -rw-r--r-- 1 benricke unknown 24580846 Feb 19 08:18 biles.mpv
What do I do with these files? I thought I was supposed to get an .iso image that was burnable?

    Any help would be appreciated.

since you have a G3 and you choose the highest vbr quality setting you could be waiting a LONG time for that movie to be done (ie a few days) The optimization for the software used is only for altivec processors (G4) Those files were still processing or you ran out of space or something failed out if it stopped at those files/sizes. when it is done you should get an iso file.

  3. Bilestyle, you missed the part about the G4 upgrade card, and I forgot to mention that I have 768meg RAM. The disk reports 10.27gig free space.

Additionally, forty-two reports that the job is done in the interface. Ther are not errors. This takes about 2-3 hours to finish.

    Thanks for the reply,

    Hi!!

Something gotta be wrong flaffer, i launched a dvd conversion on the movie "matrix" before work today, now i'm back from work and 42 tells me that it's 11 hours left. So i guess you just have to wait a bit longer.

My system is 933 mhz G4, 512 mb ram.

yeh even with altivec if you have a 500 mhz G4 processor things are not going to be that fast, I have a DP 800 and it doesn't go that fast, so theres definitely somethin wrong here... and the default vbr setting shouldnt be 3 it should be 6... another piece of useful information would be what movie(s) this is your having troubles with.
