I have been backing up DVDs to XVCDs for some time now. I use SmartRipper, DVD2AVI, TMPGEnc, VCDEasy and then burn with Nero. I'm trying to set up a new PC (P4, 2GHz, WinXP) with the same tools. Every time I try (with different DVDs too) I get the following error message in TMPG about 15 minutes in: Read Error occurred at Address 0049EC11 of module TMPGEnc.exe with 0038A93C.

I started off with the latest versions of DVD2AVI and TMPG, but to eliminate possible problem areas, I have uninstalled and re-installed the exact same versions (DVD2AVI ver.1.77.3, and TMPG ver 2.57.41.146 plus the VFAPI plug-in)as I have on the older PC. I use a Kwag template (KVCDx2 CQ 704x480 NTSC Film - 2CD). This seems to be an older template than the ones currently on his site, but I have copied it from one computer to the other to ensure they are the same on both.

The environmental settings in TMPG on both PCs are the same, and everything else as near as I can make out is identical. The new PC is clean with only the above video software installed.

I'm a bit baffled as to why it won't work, and would be grateful for any and all suggestions.

    Thanks in advance,
    Morloc

I had some further thoughts on my problem described in the previous post. I remember some people had issues with VIA chipsets and even P4 problems. Also, I have installed a lot of different codecs on my old machine, but didn't think I needed any others but those already built into the software.
    Anyone willing to help?
    Thanks,
    Morloc
