My DVD player won't play 40x CDR's. Does anyone know why? Or can you tell me how to burn them to where they play?

It has nothing to do with the speed rating of the disc but is more likely to do with the reflective dye used on these particular discs. What is your DVD player, are there any comments in the DVD player compatability list about it having problems reading certain types of discs.

Ohhhh, it's the dye. It'll read 32x and below. My DVD Player is Sony. I don't know what model. Well, I just looked on it. It says DVPNS300. I got it on clearance early last year. Then, I didn't know about looking to see if it reads CD-R/RW. I lost the instruction booklet so I can't look at what CD types it will play.

Some Sony players are known for being a bit fussy about the types of media they will read.

Oh well! Thanks for all your help Craig. I returned the CD's and got some 32x's. I'll stick to 32x and lower.

i've heard lots of ppl say that neythin higher than 4x can make unplayable cd's.
As i understand it, when burnt really fast, the pits aren't as distinguishable as when they r burnt slow.
This doesn't affect most newever stuff or stuff designed to read CD-R.
However if ur player is old or isn't deisgned to read CD-R, u may want to keep ur burn speed looooooow. -
