i currently have a hauppauge wintv stereo which i use to cap clips, shows etc via rca cables and s-video.
however the problem is that it can sometimes be a long process to cap a show in avi and encode (using tmpenc)
i was thinking of upgrading my card but im unsure which one to go for.
i would like a card that can cap in realtime Mpeg-1 and Mpeg-2, however still maintain the option of capturing in raw AVI.
i was looking at the hauppauge pvr-250 but that does not allow raw avi captures
i just wanted to know if anyone could reccommend a card which has all these features......
*im in the uk (therefore PAL) and im looking at a max £200 price range
any help would be much appreciated

There is a PVR-PCI (very confusing/poor product names!) from Hauppauge that looks like it does everything the pvr-250 does, plus supports AVI 3rd party capture (presumably has a standard capture chip).
I just bought the pvr 250 and regret it because of this.
The pvr-pci is about $40 more in the US - $189 or so. Not available as widely as the pvr-250; you may have to buy online. Presume it supports PAL.
I've been experimenting with my AIW 128 and getting pretty good MPEG2 results (after downloading various drivers - another story to post!).
