  1. I am new to DVD burning. I am capturing TV shows using the Panasonic E30, saving to DVD-R disks. I would like to edit out the commercials using Sony A500AX on my PC. The Sony can save to many DVD formats, which is the best for playback on my Toshiba 2109? The Toshiba DVD player 2109 is an older machine and does not play back the DVD-R created on the PAN E30. It may be that the older player will not play anything but the commercial DVDs. Is there firmware to update the Toshiba?

I purchased Movie Factory 2 but have not opened it yet because I am not sure it will do what I want. I am looking for a simple to use editing program. As a second editing feature, I would like to create my own chapters if possible. The E30 creates chapters for every 5 minutes, that are not logical. Also, it is necessary to decrypt the DVD when using Movie Factory 2?

    Thanks for your advice,
    Brenda

A member named Mike filed this report in the DVD player database for your DVD player:
contacted toshiba in uk today by email asking if my sd2109 would play dvdr this is the reply
    Dear Customer,

Thank you for your recent enquiry. Please find the information that you requested as follows:

As far as our we are aware the SD2109 is able to play the DVD-R discs ,it can not play the CD-R or CD-RW. There is not a firmware upgrade available to make it play the CD-R and CD-RW discs, but if your player will not play the DVD-R disc's then you will need to check the firmware version of your player.

Your firmware version should be 3.1 or above, you can check this by loading the DVD player up without a disc in, as so to get the welcome to Toshiba screen on the television. When this is on the screen press Zoom 606 on the remote control, then on the screen the firmware version will appear. If it is below 3.1 then you need to contact our customer services

my version was 2.1 so i contacted toshiba who are going to collect my machine have the firmware upgraded and return it back to me foc
i will then try it with a dvd-r and let you all know the outcome, hope this helps
So it looks like you have a little research to do. As for Movie Factory, why not download the demo from Ulead web site and see if it is a "keeper"?
    Hello.
