  1. Ok, I have become VERY baffled by an issue regarding a movie that I reencoded with DVD2DVDR & CCE. This is the ONLY time I have EVER seen this, and I'm still not sure what has caused it or why it is happening. The movie is "Me Myself, & Irene" NTSC, and the film is 16:9. I noticed that after I did everything as I usually do, when I went to play the new DVD-R on my standalone player, my standalone played it as 4:3, fullscreen. I checked my .IFO files, and somehow or another, both the VIDEO.TS.IFO file as well as the main movie .IFO file were both 4:3. I figured I would re-rip the entire movie and change the aspect ratio with IFOEdit to 16:9, and then just reburn the movie. I have some 74 cent EXCELLENT DVD-R's, so I figured I would just end up having a full screen version of the movie, and two widescreen versions. Anyway, after I changed the .IFO files, I played the burned disk in my DVD ROM, and sure enough, it played the disk as 16:9. The movie had the black borders and everything, just like the original. I figured I was all set, but when I played the disk in my standalone player, I was shocked to see that it was still playing it as 4:3, fullscreen! I re-checked the .IFO files with IFOEdit and sure enough, they were both 16:9 on the burned disk, I also ran DVD2AVI on the ripped Vobs and to my amazement, DVD2AVI showed that the movie was 16:9 as well. Now this to me is VERY confusing, and can't figure out WHY my standalone player is playing this movie at full screen.

The ONLY thing that I can think POSSIBLY happened is that DVD2DVDR sometimes incorrectly gives a wrong aspect ratio, and you have to manually set it. I think that MAY be what happened in this case, and the movie was encoded as 4:3, when it is really 16:9. Either that, or I left the 4:3 aspect ratio setting that way in Maestro, and forgot to change it to 16:9. Either way though, RIGHT NOW, as I'm typing this, DVD2AVI shows the movie as 16:9, and POWERDVD plays the movie as 16:9 either from the VOBS, or from the disk. If that isn't weird, I don't know what is. If ANYONE can give me any information as to HOW my standalone player is playing this movie as 4:3, I would appreciate it. Another thing to note is that my standalone player still plays ALL MY other 16:9 movies, as 16:9, and plays my 4:3 movies, as 4:3. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

  2. <bump> Anyone have any clue how my Standalone player is playing that movie at 4:3, but the Vobs themselves show 16:9 and the .IFO file is showing 16:9. Anyone?

  5. @Roach1976, thanks for the link, I will try it.

@dc91gt thanks for the response, and to answer your question, I believe I did not set CCE Correctly. DVD2DVDR had some problems early on where it didn't always detect the right aspect ratio. I must of not noticed it detected Me, Myself, And Irene at 4:3. At least I'm pretty sure that is what happened. Either that AND/OR I didn't set Maestro's aspect Ratio to 16:9 before I compiled. Anyway, what is odd is that the Vobs when ripped to the hard drive play at 16:9. The .Ifo files were BOTH 4:3 so that is what makes me think I did one of those two things, if not, both of the two things I mentioned. I ripped everything to my Hard Drive again, changed the .Ifo files to 16:9 and reburned. I played the newly burned disk in my DVD ROM and WHOALA! It played at 16:9. But to my surprise, when I put it in my standalone, it still played at 4:3. I hope this answers your question, and I'm just curious "where" my Standalone player could be getting the 4:3 information from or how it is playing at 4:3 when the .IFO files and Vobs are BOTH 16:9.

Any more help with this would be very helpful and appreciated. Thanks again.
