    Hey there all,

    This one has me stumped,
I am unable to sucessfully author any captured video to DVD that plays AT ALL in my standalone DVD player.

Ive been able to back up mulitple DVDs from my collection onto "melody DVD-RW" 4.7gig general using DVDXcopy. These ALL play on my XMS 750 standalone player without a hassle.

I have also been able to "rip" original DVDs using smart ripper, dvd2avi,tmpgenc then dvditpe for authoring which also works fine.

I recently purchased a CANOPUS ADVC-50 to start archiving all of my vhs-c home movies with which i am using pinnacle studio 7 to capture as DV, then add all the transitions and stuff and save as AVI, This i then run through TMPGenc following the "Rui del-*****" suggested method.
(and i have also tried the DVD PAL template from TMPGenc)
finally authoring and burning with DVDit PE useing default settings, then tried creating folders and burning those with:

Nero (useing ALL suggested methods that have been discussed here in this forum)
    Gear Pro 6.03 Trial
    Record Now Dx
Primo prassi dvd (the VIDEO_TS folder shows red in this piece of software but i cannot find any documentation as to why this is the case i am wondering if this is something to do with the verification of dvd files)

I have changed UDF settings through the 3 versions 1.02, 1.50. and 2.01
    nothing seems to work.
Yes by now you would be saying "just give up" or that it is my standalone DVD player but then why would the backups work ?
I am tearing my hair out here ! as logically it should work !
    ANY IDEAS ?????

    Hardware wise i have;
    Athlon 1400
    gigabyte mb
    512megSD
    Pioneer A04 (firmware 1.33)
(and a fuel injected, turbo charged, microprocessor integrated,
mutiple scroll,sports-lowered cordless mouse) bugga maybe its the mouse !
Yes even after all this i still have a sense of humour.
Any suggestions would be soooo greatly appreciated im sure its just a setting here or a checkbox there.
    Regards Alchemyst

  3. it could be the settings you're using when you convert your captured video in tmpgenc..

i recently did a 106 minute video capture from vhs->dvd, i used this guide for converting the captured video to dvd. https://www.videohelp.com/tmpgencdvd.htm

when you say it wont play, what happens when you put the disc in your dvd player and try playing it?

it could be a setting in dvdit, are you using the correct television system (pal/ntsc)?

are you encoding at a bitrate that is too high for your dvd player?

are you using the same dvd media that you've used for yourdvd9->dvd5 projects that we know works in your dvd player?

try making a menu your "first play" in dvdit, and having a simple "play movie" button that starts the movie.. because it should play a simple menu no problem, it could be having problems with the video, so it just craps out.. making a menu your "first play" will be a clue in the right direction.

i dont think you could have done anything incorrectly in prassi with your recording settings

    i used these settings;
    http://ifoedit.wh.fr0zen.com/primo.html

and it worked in 4 different dvd players, sony, toshiba, go video, & ps2..

good luck man, i understand your frustration completely.. i hope one of these tips helps out

    Hi there Jeex

    Thanx for your reply
I have since got it working
I seemed to be doing things ok up until burning the folders to disc.
it seems as though some dvd players have an issue with the placement of the folders on the disc
the VIDEO_TS needs to be first (apparently)
so i only added the VIDEO_TS folder and burned it with nero

HEY PRESTO ! working dvd in everything

    havent looked back since
now im just running around the place looking for things to record, edit and burn ! *grin*
    NEW TOY !! woohoo
I must again say thanx for your reply as sometimes it can be the simple things that put people off. This forum and people like yourself really give us newbies a real chance a finding a solution to a problem that could otherwise make us give up.

    Thanx Jeex and thanx Vcdhelp
