  1. I got a dvd burner in the past few weeks and have made some wonderful looking dvds. i also made some wonderful looking svcds before i had it. Now, that isn't the case and i can't figure out why. I'm backing up a few of my dvd's so i can keep copies by my home theater, and by my computer. I made a copy of Chasing amy and Sweet Home alabama recently, both Film encoded dvds, and haven't been getting very poor results. i'm using a homemade bitrate calculator so that the bitrate fills the dvd. I can't get any more bitrate out of it.

I'm using the newest version of tmpegenc. I've read every Tmpeg help file i can. I've tried encoding in Motion Detection, and High Quality. I've tried encoding in 29.97 and 23.976 frame rates. i've tried added 3:2 pulldown. Inverse telecine. I'm using 2-pass VBR. On slow motion scenes, it looks great, but gets choppy on the slightest amount of motion.

To give you a rundown of my tmpegenc settings, maybe you can see a problem:

    mpeg2 - 720x480, 16:9
    23.976fps (29.97 int)
    2 pass VBR 5000kb/s
    VBV buffer 224

    main profile/level
    NTSC
    3:2 pulldown
    4:2:0 color
    10 bit DC precision
    motion search - estimate search

    next page:
    Video source - interlace
    Bottom field first
    source ration 16:9
    Full screen

The only filter i have on is inverse telecine

Is there something i'm missing? I mean, i've been doing this for a while, but i'm a little frustrated at my current results. THe only thing different is a newer copy of TMpeg, which might do it, but i'll ask you guys first! thanks!
